Got the crank scraper today

Can most of you drop the oil pan with the motor in the car?

More of a poll than a question b/c I just dropped the sub-frame from my car, again.

In my opinion, it is MUCH easier to drop the whole sub-frame with engine and auto tranny than trying to pull it from the top. I did the job by myself in about two hours (pizza break)

I built I "dolly" for the subframe to rest on and then I raise the car.

I will get this car to run.

I pull it out the top. Never tried dropping the pan with the motor in the car but the sub frame has to come off to do this, or you gotta raise the engine up. Make sure you follow the directions. Franz had to modify his a little on his 3.1.

i talked to the machinist about the scrapers and he indicated to properly utilize them, some work would need to be done to the pan. i think he said it needed to be radiused to properly circulate the oil or the scraped oil will just collect in the pan to block area.

but he also said some cheap modification may be done to the windage tray to compensate. he can't be for sure until he actually sees the parts, so i am taking them to him on sat to look at if all goes according to plan.

could have fooled me.

that is just what the machinist said, maybe some1 should get a second opinion. when i talk to him and write some things down i will have a better idea of what he is talking about.

the scraper is a bolt-on i think, but the pan modification/windage tray modification is like follow-up to make better use of the scraper i would guess.

Its a bolt on. You MAY need to grind on it to clearance something if need be (franz had to on his 3.1, the 3400 checked out cleared everything, differs from person to person possibly though due to thrust bearing wear/crank end play clearances. You should always inspect it by turning the motor over by hand to see that its going to clear. All in the instructions

There may be some mod to something else that helps even more, that is something im now aware of at this point but would love to know.
