I am curious where one finds a complete V660 3.4L DOHC motor assembly? Buy a beater that had one and rebuild or is there a reputable company that sells them on the net.?
Crate motors show up on ebay every so often, expect to drop about $900-1K on those + freight charges though.....pretty sure all the ones I've seen have went for at least a grand.
If I go to a salvage yard, how do I identify if its DOHC or not? Are they any distinguishing features on the block that separates it from its pushrod variant?
Are rebuild parts (or performance parts) easy to find?
well, most of them have a plastic cover that says either 3.4 dohc on it or 3.4 twin dual cam on them. that may be a clue. other than that a 3.4 dohc is instantly noticable over it's pushrod brothers and sisters. like the title denotes, if it has cams on top of the heads(dual overhead cam) then it is a dual overhead cam motor.
rbc is right, 3.4 dohc's are a mystery to most yards and they sell them for cheap. i would suggest either a rebuild or a crate motor unless you find one still in the car that is low miles. do not believe them when they say it is low miles without the car to back it up. last piece of junkyard advice, if u get one make sure the car is wrecked. if it isn't run away.
the reasoning behind that is the car was actually moving at one time be4 it wrecked where as a non-wrecked car most likely suffered from mechanical difficulties.
