  • fuel gauge

it seems like my fuel gauge only reads the top half of the tank because one day i was almost on empty and went to go fill up and it only took 7 somthing gallons. after that i started to pay attention and it goes down quite quick and when you put gas in it goes up very quick, ( usually 10 dollars for a half tank). what do you think could cause this?? Thanks.

    Our guages are very innacurate.

    For example:

At 3/4 tank, on the guage itself, I can put 6.5 gallons of gas into my gas tank. Yet, my gas tank holds 12.5 gallons of gas.

At 1/2 tank, on the guage, I can usually put about 9 gallons of gas into the tank.

    Get used to it.

Does your guage go past FULL when you fill it up? I know on my car, mine goes pretty far past FULL. When it finally gets down to FULL, I'm at ~3/4, and when it gets down to 3/4, I'm at ~1/2. When it gets down to 1/4, I know I only have alittle over a gallon left in the tank.

Hmm... I the previous owner may have installed a smaller tank.

mine dosnt really go past full, but i have thought about just driving it until it runs out to see how much is really left below empty, i have AAA so i could get gas. do you think a new sending unit would help at all??
