  • group buy lq1 aluminum timing cover

it will replace the plastic cover and will come with a slight finish, if you want to polish it or paint it. i leave that descision to the end user.

there are 3 peeps already wanting one. myself and 2 others but i am shooting for 5 to get the price down.

these will be made by the same company that made the billet underdrive WP pulley group buy i had a while back. they will be cnced as the pullies were and the same guy i talked to last time said it will be VERY close if not an exact match to stock.

when i say that i mean the outside shape, the piece itself will be flat.

only downer is the price. setup takes time and their labor rate isn't cheap. the way it will look is for 4, it will be $75 each and for 5 it they be 70 each.

i know it is high and the only compensation i can offer for the price is it will be a one time group buy so if any1 wants one, other than yourself and 3-4 others you will have something unique. and most likely out of 3-5 no 2 peeps will have the same ideas for what they may want to do to it.

it is up to you i guess. i didn't anticipate that question i am using 1/8 inch, but i suppose you can use 1/4 or 3/8 inch if you like. they are kind of flexible about small changes. just lmk what size you want and i will double check to see if there will be any difference in price(i do not anticipate change unless they don't have any material).

i wasn't aware of a groove cut in the original cover(i looked too, perhaps not hard enough) i was just going to run a bead of rtv on the large timing cover, let it dry and bolt this cover on.

also, if you like i can ask about the groove but i do not think the price will be the same for you.

I made one for the engine that's seems to never move from the stand it's on. I used poster board material to make a template. I transferred that to some .060 aluminum. I put tape where the outline of the cut was to be made to keep it from getting scratched. Then used a sabre saw to cut it out. Had to finish it a bit with a die grinder. I used stainless button head fasteners. A friend at an anodizing shop clear anodized it. It's heavy enough to do the job and I don't think anything thicker is necessary. The cog belt covers will seal adequately without any problems. Sorry, no pictures, maybe one day I'll get camera motivated. I painted the upper intake and cam covers with Imron pewter. I also machined and painted a second front cam cover so things would be asthetically matched in the event I make an intake setup to ditch the not so attractive upper plenum. Anyway. the front cover gives things a more hi tech look. I had considered clear polycarbonate at first. The engine is a new crate motor and I thought about plating everything behind the cover. I guess I'm easily amused whatching things go 'round.

I will throw down in an instant if one can be made out of 1/4" aluminum. I need this thickness for my engine only, but of course it's the same CNC program, just run it alittle slower

I don't care in the least if this increases the price. I planned on making one out of 1/4" aluminum anyway, so I can mount my blowers tensioner pullies to it.

              1 day left.

i checked for d.o.h.c. the price difference is only 5 bux for 1/4 b/c he wanted it too. if u want in, jump in ASAP. last day is tomorrow and last day of collections is thursday. estimated completion day is nov-3-4.

              p.s. are u dong an m90 swap?

Not exactly an M90, its the next size up.

I will be welding support bosses to the plate so that the Idlers will not distort the plate, considering 40-50 horse power will be going through the blower belt, but thats another story alltogather.

damn, if you need any extra stuff done, lmk and i will give you a number to the place and you and the machinist can discuss it but that would be fucking sweet and once u get it going, hook me up with a ride in this beast .

as far as peeps go. me, you, your i.d. and ez112 have responded and paid. only waiting on d.o.h.c.

just a heads up, if he changes his mind the price will go up to 75 instead of 70 base price. i will just add it in to the shipping cost if that is the case. (excluding fieroobsessed since u gave me 80 you would be square and if d.o.h.c. is in you would be +5)

p.s. plz lmk something d.o.h.c.(thurs is the deadline and remember your price is 5 more than the base of 70 for the 1/4 inch)

do you think those mounting holes are strong enough that a dogbone bracket could b bolted to the timing cover?

would make things real easy for the fiero world

I'm inclined to think that 9 bolt holes should be able to handle a dogbone - so i'm also inclined to get a 1/4" thick timing cover plate

Something to that effect has crossed my mind too... like having the cover extend up to the three P/S mounting bolts and then up alittle more for one half of the dog bone mount, and the other half fabbed off the holes the lifting eye attaches off of (on the head, and bolted to the one timing cover bolt too) I can't test this idea since the car is 2700 miles from the engine. (Damn....)

One problem the 1/4" thick cover might cause... is interference with the accessory belt. It doesn't bother me so much, but Its definatly a potential clearance problem for the rest of you. Investigate this thouroughly You may need to have two 1" wide X 1/8" deep mill passes across the face of the plate to make clearance for the belt. But then again, it might just clear it... I don't know and I cannot tell from here, but you can see where they made the clearance on my engine in the picture above. Keep this in mind.

not a problem for me, i am getting 1/8. time is your enemy. if we had communicated sooner, we could have set something up provided you would have given a pattern or the timing cover to the machinist .

well, kohburn, you have 1 day to get me the $$$ if you want one. so if u want one pm me ASAP. also have more news. there are 5 peeps besides d.o.h.c if he gets in too the price will drop to 67 per unit. the same can be said for kohburn. p.s. i am not sure about 7, never even anticipated 6. i had to call today to get the price for 6.

so far pff member sourmug has joined the party so there are 5 definate and the price is set at 70 and can only be cheaper . if i did not say it be4 thursday is the absolute deadline.

hmm, i have been inspired. when i do the pws kit, i think i will have it cut to match the timing cover. that will be sweet. thanx fiero obsessed.

if any1 wants in, they have to pm me for the addy and pay with the quickness.

NOTE: just saying you are in isn't enough b/c i am not fronting any1 i do not know and getting stuck with a cover.

i already have 5, so if a 6th wants in the new price will be 67 instead of 70.(to those who already paid 70, if i get 6 i will simply deduct it from shipping)

after i log off tonight that's it.

p.s. list so far goes as follows: me, fiero obsessed, sourmug, ez112 and your i.d.
