  • DOHC find?

Hey everybody, I posted this over on the forums at Pontiac-fiero.com, but got no answers. (In fact, only like 2 views.) This is a bit of a drive for me to go back to check out, so an answer would be greatly appreciated....

I haven't been able to look under the hoods, and maybe you peeps can tell me if it's worth going back and checking it out closer. 2 cars for sale, priced at $500 for both (complete, but rough), OBO. The paint on the windows gives little info, except for this:
92 Grand Prix LE, Bad motor, and the other: 93 Cutlass Supreme runs and drives.

Since I'm looking for a 3.4DOHC donor, is it possible I just stumbled upon 2 donors that I can get for under 500? 1 to rebuild, and 1 for parts? It would be VERY cool to have 2 complete donors for computers, wiring, parts, ect....

So, whatdayathink? Do these warrant further investigation?

i don't think the LE is canidate, but you could look closer at the supreme.

Agreed.. The LE probably won't have the DOHC, but the supreme has a chance.

      92 GP GTP 3.4DOHC 5spd
      88 Fiero Formula CONVERTIBLE 3.4DOHC 5spd
      84 Fiero T-Top 3.4DOHC 5spd
There seems to be a pattern there.

Either could have the DOHC motor but honestly, neither probably does. DOHC wasn't the popular option. If its an international, its probably DOHC, but otherwise, probably not.

LQ1 in the Cutlass was about 12%. But, that may mean a drive to further check it out, or, get someone to take a couple of pics.

          Where are you located?

Whew, forgot all about this post. FYI, BOTH had the TDC!

Neither ran. Both had broken timing belts, but no interference damage. Bought them both, and stripped 'em down. Parts are all over my garage... But hey, I've got 2 complete engines for parts at the least, 2 wiring harnesses, and 2 computers...

Look out Mustangs and rice grinders in, oh, about '07...

p.s. I paid $150 for both, since the one he said ran, didn't.

That's about 50 bucks less than the scrap value of them...

Nice grab.. Let the rebuilding begin. I bet your garage looks a lot like mine right now.. Except I only have one of the three engines in there comepletely stripped down, but with all the other parts I ahve lying around I bet I could build almost a whole car, and have parts left over.

I didn't expect the LE to have one.. kinda a wierd find.

Freakin Charter.net.... cable went out right after I posted that. I'm not willing to part with any of it right now... I do know where there are af ew more junkyard ones though, and those I get for ~100 a piece. (Backup parts )

I guess it's not a big secret, I'm building yet another Fiero. I want this one to be NASTY though. 86 SE, 3.4TDC Twin Turbo Mustang Eater. If I can manage to build it strong enough, maybe a little NOS shot on TOP of the TT's...

I'm seriously considering a body kit for it too, from ARchie (v8 Archies), but I'm not sure yet. This SE is power NOTHING, and I'd kinda like to do a full custom interior if I do a kit. Cool, except adding power windows and locks is a major PITA... Maybe I'll build this one as a sleeper/practice, then I'll be able to get the kit one right the first time...

I'm taking pics, of course, and will form a build thread when enough is done to make it worth it.

                  In my garage right now...

Two complete 3.4 TDC's minus trannies.
One 86 Fiero SE, about to get stripped and restored from the frame up.
One 90 Sunbird LE Convert. W/ the somewhat rare 2.0L Turbo (cracked head)

Luckily, I have an understanding wife. Oh, and she made a deal. I build my toy ($$$), she gets an Escalade EXT. I STILL think I got the better end of the deal...

                  Me = :P

Originally one of the "California Kit's" but I don't like the way it turned out so I"m in the process of doing a complete rebuild/redesign, so once finished it will be a complete one off. Doing a frame up rebulil/restore/customization so it'll definatley be unique when finished. Redesigning the top, doing some custom fiberglassing for the body panels, Full custom interior, probably going to have some kind of digital cluster, Turbo 3.4DOHC, 5spd. Gonna be a fun, long build. I"ll be posting the full design (minus a few secrets I'll keep for myself) over on PFF. Stay tuned next summer for that.
