  • pcv vacuum q&a

    right now i have a vacuum block that everything hooks up to on the intake arm and the pcv connects to the plenum itself.

    can I reroute the pcv to the vacuum block?

    next should the vacuum block get it's feed from the intake closer to the tb or the plenum connection?

    i am hoping for the inake arm connection b/c the plenum connection will stall the car if it gets compromised and the intake arm connection should just change the idle.

    logic would dictate that vacuum is vacuum and the devices shouldn't care where it comes from as long as it is there.

    any thoughts?

    You're right Vacuum is Vacuum.

    The most likely reason for the vacuum port on the intake arm is that by being there, it won't be able supply engine oil to the vacuum block and the brake booster and contaminate the vacuum contorl system. Vacuum diaphrams for the power brake booster and Heater & A/C contol diaphrams don't tolerate engine oil very well.

      Also the 97 type manifold is designed to hold excess oil. If you look at the shape it forms a trough for oil. What doesn't get sucked into engine and burn will drain back through pcv line, when engine is off. (only if its puddled above the port .)

        i don't like that design b/c once i hit a bump and it just slipped off. perhaps conctruction of a bracket will be necessary and i may go to the earlier design 91-93 pcv valve instead.
