  • update on dead 3.4lt

machine shop are able to bore the cylinder and install a sleeve, this is being done.
    i found a head for $225.
3 Piston are $45 each. compare to dealer at$265 for 1.
Rings are at around $200 a set.
1 Connecting rod (dealer item only since none at the scrap yard)is $140.

This is going to be a expensive rebuilt. So if any of you guy s have parts for sale at a decent price + shipping that might be cheeper than buying new, specialy the connecting rod at $140.(That is #2 piston) but i don t think it make a difference. i ll keep you updated as it progress.

Also, with some machine work, Chevy small block v8 rods can be used. Ben can fill you in more on this too.

Won't any V6/60 rod work just the same, they never changed them, did they?

They should, but I think the LQ1 rods are the strongest, but don't quote me on that, I don't know for a fact. But if you are wanting something stronger then stock DOHC rods, you could shot peen the stockers, or go with machined small block rods. When I do a performance rebuild, you can bet I am going to go with the small block rods, huge aftermarket.

The rods are the same, but the DOHC castings look nicer compared to the 3.4 pushrod RWD rods. I don't know about them being stronger, but its not likely. Deburred, polished, and shotpeened they should be good enough for any NA build up minus trying to go super high RPM. 8k might be ok, 9k, I won't try on stock redone rods.

Is that cylinder head brand new for 225? I have heads here that I would sell for much less than that but they are used. I also have a set of connecting rods and a connecting rod that is good with a good piston still attached. I may even have 6 good pistons/rods as part of a motor but I would have to take them out to verify.

Let me know if you still need all those parts, cause im sure I can save you a great deal of cash on some of them.

Thats what I sent in the PM.
