i think i know the jist that it purges fuel vapors from the tank into a charcoal cannister.

i know what it does but why does it do it? and what would happen if i removed it? do i need it really?

Its emissions only. I didnt notice anything when I removed it but was told to remove it when I tune so the fuel vapors don't throw the computer off any. Haven't really noticed a change in the computer eithe with the return hose unplugged and vented to atmosphere.

Im not sure thats a good idea. I would leave it unplugged to atmosphere, which is how I was running my 3.1 for a couple years without any issues.

Absorbs vapor from the tank, EGR, and waste vapor from the engine.

It purges into the engine when ever it gets a chance.
