  • Dual Knock Sensors.

ok i was looking at my crate motor today and i just relized that it has a knock sensor in the front and in the back, where my 91 just had one in the back. now i need to get the proper connector for the knock sensor because it is a different one than my 91 connector, would it be worth it to use both sensors , or will it not make a difference, i would ovbiously have to splice it into the same line, so would this screw up the computer? i dunno what should i do, if you guys think it is pointless i will give it to my brother, he needs one, and it will save him $120. thanks

    RE: Dual Knock Sensors.

I'm not sure but...cant you just have the second knock sensor not plugged in? I thought I saw that somewhere. The computer is only looking for one sensor, so thats all it needs?

      RE: Dual Knock Sensors.

well thats what i was going to do, but i didnt know if it would be of any advantage, so i will just take it out and give it to my brother. thanks for the info.

The only advantage is that your ICM will be more sensitive to detonation with 2 sensors. The ICM wiring for the 96-97 motors does account for 2 knock sensors, but it is not necessary to have 2. Hell, it's not even necessary to have run, but you had better have a sweet running motor and perfect gas every time if you do that.

just thread a sensor from a 91 into the spot on the newer engine where the sensor from the 91 should go. Take the other 2 and throw them aside. You don't need them.

I second what Joey b said. I tried hooking both 96 Ks's to the computer. it threw a 43, knock sensor fault. So I dis connected one, still threw the 43, so I changed the connector back to the older style and put in the older style Ks, 43 went away. They are different. so just use one of the older type.
