I'm new so i dont know most of this stuff. I was reading through some of the other topics and i came upon a "built" 3.4 DOHC. It stated that it was new. I was wondering how much they are if they still sell them new. Thanks

Our local dealership either has, or has access to, them. They are $4200 long block, and no core charge. Too much IMO, you can spend under $2,000 on a cheap rebuild.
It's not that my car needs it. You posted on my car under members rides. I was just thinking if anything went wrong with it because it does have 147,000 miles. Thanks

Ebay has them now and then, for less than 2000. I would still take a quality rebuild because you can balance the bottom end, deburr and shotpeen the rods, go with tighter tolerances, and end up with a stronger motor. That and with a well seasoned block, you are in better shape for the long run as well. However it takes longer to do that and you need an engine to work with.

I agree, it would be the better route. But hopefully you don't run into problems before then. I ended up having to replace my crank, rods, and pistons, and some other small stuff therefore my tally, after all was said and done, peaked $3,000 and neared $3500. BUt it was worth it, this motor cranks!
Actually Gm has now discontinued all 3.4l dohc's ive checked into it.
