  • Normal temp?

What is the normal driving/operating temperature for a GTP? Mine is hovering around 220, which I think is a little high...
Okay now, that's enough of that.

220 might be a little high, have you bled the system? With a stock temp. thermostat Id think 210 would be normal.

Yeah 200-210 is what I have heard as normal for the DOHC

195 is stock temp stat...so while driving it should be at 195. Sitting in traffic it will get up to 220, when the fans kick on. If your car is staying at 220 while driving, there is a problem. Replace the stat first, after checking that the coolant level is where it should be and that the coolant is effective.

a good coolant flush can't hurt.. and changing the stat. It really helped with my car in the traffic. My car being 15 years old with 273km on it and people probably didn't maintain anything on it..

I dunno about the 3.4, but with the 3.1 you can jam a garden hose into the stat housing and flush out some of the block.. I had flies coming out of mine!

flies....uh...damn. The DOHC stat is actually a PITA and you can't really flush it out that way easily.

How do you bleed it? The haynes manual says I just have to open them up when I fill it... but that just sounds stupid. I was thinking maybe I have to open it while running until coolant comes out, then close it??
Okay now, that's enough of that.

i would say that the best way to bleed the system is to go out on a long drive or after you come home from work and the engine is hot, with pressure in the system, then open the bleeder valves. you might have to do that a few days in a row to completly bleed the system.
                What was I thinking when I bought a Z34?
