Better headlights?

Nope. I've checked all the majors and they don't make anything besides the stocker. Maybe soon they will release something but it's been like 3-4 years since they have released better sealed beams. But I can't imagine they would go ahead now. Thye aren't making anything with these bulbs anymore.
I read an artical about a guy who pulled the backs out of his sealed beams and siliconed in some 9006 Silverstar bulbs. He claimed he had great results with this. I can't see why it wouldn't work, but I think that I would like to use something a little more reusable than silicon. Like maybe you could cut the socket off a composite headlight and epoxy it onto your sealed beams.
I'll see if I can find the artical.

The DOHC gets the lower wattage bulbs to ease the pain from the alt. Get bulbs from a 3400 and you will solve a lot of issues.Brian

Actually I was kidding about that. I was making a reference with regards to having a headlight topic in the engine section.
What I've done is install the silverstar bulbs in my miniquads. It's particularly easy if your headlights aren't original (Sylvania, for example. Not Guide) remove the flexible plastic ring, the bulb, then install the silverstar (can't re-use the plastic ring though) The O-ring on the 9005/9006's do keep the bulb in place and sealed.Brian

I would steer clear of the Silverstars. They have awesome light output compared to even good halogens, but they don't last very long. Mine burned out in 6 months. At $25 each, it gets pretty expensive to replace a pair of them twice a year.
Here is a thread on the Monte Carlo SS forum that includes an email response from Sylvania regarding the life expectancy of the Siulverstars: http://www.montecarloss.com/cgi-bin/...2;t=002442;p=0
Here's an excerpt from the email: The SilverStar product is quoted as "lasting
up to a year"
No thanks.

I knew of the shorter lifespan, but I've had mine in my old cutlass for almost a year, transferred them to my new car for a few months. Still working, but if they blow, XV's would be fine. But I'll push my luck, maybe my silverstars will last me longer (watch it blow tomorrow)Brian

I've had my GTP for almost 4 years now. I only had to replace one of my bulbs. God only knows how old the others are.
Anywho, apparently Eurolite (Toucan Industries) makes a sealed beam replacement. It's a composite replacement for the Miniquad bulb. The website isn't specific but I think these are them. Maybe someone here could elaborate on if they are the proper size.

Battle for brighter head lights
Well i too hate the fact the sealed quad beams arent that bright... so i desided to try somthing... u can break the bulb out of the sealed beam n put a XENON blue color'd light..but they dont last all that long. If your really into spending some money you can do what i have tryed. I bought a HID 8500K kit... the light is sorta of bluish/green comes w/balest box n some some special HID gas charged lights. That solved my dim light problem but set me back 250$ Not to mention a pain in the arse glueing these lights into the sealed beam so they wouldent fall out.1996 Dodge Ram 5.9/4x4

Re: Battle for brighter head lights
here is another write-up. this is the one i used. http://www.lukez34.com/galleries/ref...ars/index.html
i didnt use silverstars i just used apc bulbs. i have silverstars in the riv and i love them, but about every 3 months one goes out. the parts store i get them from is nice enough to give me a new one, but they are expensive initially and i cant rely on that forever.
also, i have heard bad things about the sealed beam conversion kits but i have had no problems with the hella kit i put in my blazer.91 GTP HM-284 GONE
