  • 3.4 cat meltdown

i have a 92 GTP 3.4 I've gone through two catalytic converters in as many months, Ive consulted a few mechanics and have had just as many answers. some say O2 sensor, MAF which there is none on my car and Advanced Auto says its probably the fuel regulator. the cat thats on there now has less than 100 miles on it. Any suggestions?[/b]

O2 seonsors, Fuel Pressure Regulators, Coils, ICM's, or MAF's can all be the cause of that problem -

When the coils were causing issues on my Z34 it trashed the catalytic converter - so I removed the cat, and replaced the coils.

Same here as Dave .. when one of my DIS coil went, my cat was schorching red and make the converter crispy! Do you notice a lack of power? Bad fuel economy or are they just "melting" ?

i havnt had the car long enough to really notice fuel consumption....besides...when its running good....i (nor my kid) can stay out of it long enough to really notice. but yeah..i guess it seems a bit poor...i'm thinking i should get more than 200 miles on a tank of gas.
