RWD, DOHC, 3.4L

Hello Guy's

I plan on looking for a vehicle with the 3.4 DOHC engine, and would like it to be a rear wheel drive if possable. I am a Diesel Mechanic, I think my hands would have a realy hard time in a FWD engine bay.

Can you guy's recomend what particular vehicle would be the best one to look for, brand is not important, they are All GM.

Plunking arround on the site, it seems that 96/97 may be the best years, but also the last years.

You guy's rule, I can't believe how much information you all have on this site.

GM never made a Factory RWD 3.4DOHC vehicle. www.Engineered.net wil hook you up with a Turbocharged 3.4DOHC RWD W-body though. They are doing one right now!

Best in my opinion are the 94-95 Grand Prix GTP for obvious reasons, then the Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible 3.4DOHC, and finally the 91-93 Grand Prix 5speed 3.4DOHC but that would require an Interior and B4U swap.

Hello Again

Well you all know that I and a newbe, I was not aware that they did not make a RWD version with the 3.4 DOHC engine, Darn.

I am searching some and am looking in the area of a 96 GP, SE right now.

I am having some problems trying to figure out exactly what cars they were in,
I.E., ALL Makes, Models and Years, and the option where they were normaly a part of that option.

All Help is appriciated greatly.

1991-1994 Chevy Luminas(standard on Z34, option on Euro)
1995-1997 Monte Carlo(Only in Z34)

1991?-1996 Grnad Prix(Standard in GTP, option in SE)

And the Cutlass, I have no idea on years though.

Im assuming it will bolt up to certain RWD trannies, since the 3800 does (f body) and we have the same pattern...

but as lowerd said...it was never put into one from the factory

That would probably be the easiest. If you really want a longitudal engine you can stretch the rear a little and use one of those (sorry, i forget the name) FWD longitudal tranny's that were used in motor homes and old Caddies.

I know someone has managed to make it fit into a F-body before. The isssue comes from how wide the motor is, its as wide or wider then most 90* pushrod V8's and much taller.

For RWD front engine you have to worry about the starter, motor mounts, and oil pan/oil pump. RWD engines had the starter on the opposite side of the engine (though it is as easy as drilling bosses on the other side). The motor mounts are in the wrong place so they will have to be custom, and the oil pan may interfere with the cross member.
