recently i was at the store and i saw an oil additive that removes gunk and sludge. You put it in run your car at idle for a few minutes and change your oil. Kind of like radiator flush. What is everyones opinion of this stuff and does every1 think it is safe? usually i am weary of additives.

Engine flush is a joke! You break a bunch of shit loose and it clogs the pickup tube. Seen it way too many times. And guess what? None of the manufacturers of this stuff have a guarantee. Yes, you can get away with it, but why take a chance? Want to clean your motor? Tear it down. And if they use it at a quicky oil change place, you should change places! Lyle, you are exactly right! They aren't stories. And KUDOS to bzsopi! Now we can spell corektllee! If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

I was talking with my brother-in-law last week, he's a mechanic. He was teelling me a story about an old lady who bought a new car and didn't know you had to change the oil. This engine probably still had the break-in lube still in it. She came to them for something unrelated so they did a check of her fluids. The car had 53000Kms on it, mostly all city driving too. The oil was like sludge on the dipstick. They flushed it like 5 times and it hardly made a dent. He said they resorted to heating the oil pan with a propane torch to try to melt the heavy crude in her pan. He said the last resort was to dump pure varsol in and run it like that. Finally got it clean though, as far as the car now, who knows? Pretty redneck, but what ya gonna do? I say she's lucky the car ran that long.

i kinda figured there was something behind this shit. the engine was made for oil not that shit. my thought was that it might break down gaskets or valve seals or something. or worse break down that cursed o-ring. but clogging up the pickup is just as bad. thanx guys. The Official Rotating Mass Nazi
