  • 95 monte heater fan seems weak.. not blowing fast

    95 monte z34 w/ 3.4 DOHC
I Have heat, just crappy fan speed--- all speeds on the dial work, it's just that on even the highest setting, It's not blowing real fast and will barely keep the car warm.. is this normal??? Usually chev's have a wicked good heater-- but the fan speed sucks!! any hints???

I was thinking the same thing with mine the other day. 1-3 barely blows and 4 makes a ton of noise but really doesnt blow you away. Im thinking maybe my cabin air filter need replaced. Maybe you should check yours. Could help.

hmmm. ya possibly.. I'll check that.. thanks! though, I think that it's the nature of the beast with this car- I just checked the fan for coorect voltage etc etc and all seems well when on 4--- fan motor seems as it's functioning normally-- as for RPM's that is..., but just crap airflow...... maybe I'll put 24v to it and see how long before the brushes burn out on motor,.. lol

My 93 Z34 has Mega-Heat!!! One thing that you might consider checking is something that happened to my 99 Lumina. MICE!! They got under the hood and down into the heater fan and made a nest in the cold side of the fan-wheel. It was loaded with building insulation and stuff and wouldn't let much air through. The crap just spun with the fan!! Was kind of funny actually!! Just hope at least one of the bastards went for a whirl when I turned on the fan!!
Another common problem is the vacuum ball under the battery or the lines going to it. The heater uses vacuum to open and close various ducts and without the proper vacuum the Fan motor cranks like crazy but doesn't really blow a lot of air...

The Mice may be a long shot, but the vacuum leak IS common,, BOTH of my cars have the ball bypassed.. Not a problem for me as I NEVER use Krooz Kontrol,, don't even have that fuse installed.. Worse case,, the balls aren't too expensive (I think)..
Hope this helps a little,,,, or even makes sense!!
        Good luck,,
        Tom...
