  • DOHC INFORMATION ON WEBSITE

I found this website that maybe has already been mentioned somewhere on 3.4 DOHC. http://www.angelfire.com/ca2/34Performance/dohc.html
92 Gran Prix SE 3.4 dohc that has a bad knock in front head. I think it is a lifter or rocker.

That site has been linked too quite a few times, and not all of the info on there is correct. For example, on the issue of the timing belt:

If you do it yourself, under no circumstances remove the bots from the camshaft sprockets. These sprockets are not keyed, and cam timing is lost to the tune of 700.00 and a tow to the Pontiac dealership.
Bullshit. Plain and simple, pure bullshit. The only way to do the timing belt correctly is to remove the bolts and the pullies, and then the lock rings. Then put the pullies back on without the lockrings before installing the new belt. At least he is right on the part of needing special tools, lol.

Ok I just read this and I want to point out all the bullshit, cuz it's full of it.

"Delco electrionics solved the horsepower problem by cutting the fuel delivery and spark advance curves of the motor."

Haven't we come to the conclusion that fuel delivery has nothing to do with the 275 to 200 cut?

"The intake manifold shape changed every year after 1992."

The only way this is true is if he is counting very very minor changes, and to my knowledge, they were identical from 91-95. And if they aren't identical, they are close enough to swap in and out with no problems or even effects, whether the effects be good or bad.

"Exhaust manifolds are pretty good for cast units. I cant even imaging fitting headers to this beast, but you dont need to. I have run backpressure gauage on my car, and found no significant problem save the converter itself. Al converters are restricitive, but the exhaust is low on the list of places to get more zip from a 3.4."

Wow. Where to start. The manifolds aren't too bad compared to others, they are about the same. You don't need to do headers? Wow headers helped my car more than any other mod I have done. And when I did my 2.5 mandrel cat back, it didn't add much power at all, I barely noticed it. And I got a new cat, new res, and 2 new straight through muffs.

"I cannot stress enought that this is NOT a car to give the kids going to college. The 3.4L takes frequent, extensive maintanence to assure its durability."

I got this car midway through highschool and it has been fine. Normal, maybe a little more. But with 130k of hard, 7,000rpm miles that's expected. My problems have been minimal, my mom's 1997 Jeep is less dependable. And about my blown motor, that was 100% my fault.

"The long oiling system is the reason why the oil pressure flucates so much while driving."

My oil pressure doesn't flucuate at all, except when i release the gas and revs drop, but that is very normal. My dad's LT1 has a much less oil pressure than mine as well, and both motors are under 40,000miles.

God I will finsih alter, got to go now. But this guy isn't all correct, he based his facts off of a single car.

Yeah, it was established a long time ago that guy is a retard. If the electronics (read mostly the ECM) were the reason for the HP drop, a chip would probably be the single most cost effective mod.

It is the most cost-effective mod. It made the biggest difference on my auto Z34.

Is there something wrong w/ your dads LT1? Cruising a 2k, mine sits at 40psi easy if not a bit more when it's cooler. Under full load It's well above 60.

No there isn't anything wrong with it at all. But the oil pressure on my car is higher than it.

I'll get the numbers next time I drive it, right now I'm a few hundred miles away from my car or his.
