  • 3.4 gm crate engine low oil pressure

just installed a gm crate engine in my 96 z34. i guess i didnt know about any oil priming procedure so i just spun the engine over with the fuel pump fuse out for a while, then started it. oil pressure is low and a squeak is coming from what sounds like the top . question is where do I go from here? thanks in advance

Is the (low oil light) on or is the (red oil light) on? If its the low oil you may have broken the connector. Have you actually pulled the sensor off and put a real pressure gauge to the block?

Idk what procedure you would do with installing a new crate engine I would pull the valve cover and oil all the cams and valves surfaces even shoot some breaking in oil on the pistons not anoph to hydro lock just to coat the wells.

oil pressure good, squeak still there

I tried an actual gauge and the engine has about 50 lbs oil pressure, thats the good news. Bad news is there is a squeak coming from one of the cam carriers in the sprocket/first bearing location. I removed the valve cover and ran the engine. Plenty of lubrication and if i spray lube around the sprocket the noise will go away for a bit, then come back. I need to know if this problem will go away on its own or how can I fix? Thanks

It almost sounds like you might have a plugged passage since it goes away when you spray it with lube and will return later. If it were mine (not saying you have to do this) I would pull that carrier off and blow the passages out with compressed air and reassemble if the cam journals look ok.

Take it to a GM dealer, and have it fixed under warranty???

Why are you screwing with this?

It may not have been bought from GM directly. I have seen NOS crate DOHCs on eBay here and there.

You may just want to pull the timing belt and front cam carrier and put your old one back on it.
