  • Anyone ever pull 1500lbs with their Lumina?

Im getting a boat soon. I have a class II hitch on my Lumina now. I have a Waverunner that I presently pull. The whole set up for the waverunner is only about 500lbs. The max in the book says 2000lbs.
Has anyone pulled this much weight with thier Lumina?
    Thanks!

The DOHC cars already have an auxilary cooler, so maybe a larger one would help?

That sounds like about the same size boat. The aux tranny cooler sounds like a great idea. How is it pulling it out of the water on the ramp?
My Lumina I have to "power brake" to get it up the ramp. So the tranny cooler is definatly in order.
The trailer brakes sound like a good idea also. Can you put them on a trailer that doesnt have them--I think you can????

Damn, 94 didnt get the oil cooler or the auxilary trans cooler! Well, that really sucks. I wonder if you have the stock bolting locations to use the GM cooler. I have a cooler here but no lines for it.

i would definatly be intrested in the oil cooler....... and as far as getting up the boat ramp i have never had any problems ...... never had to power brak either..... not really sure how applying the breaks would make it easer to pull something

Check out http://www.northerntool.com , they have lots of trailering equipment, and would likely have a system to put brakes on your trailer. I'm not sure what all would have to be replaced, but I can't imagine it being any more than an axle, hubs, and the braking system itself.

BTW, nice boat! I just got back from fishing in a local lake... I'm sunburned and feel like I'm still floating!

Your best bet is to find a junked 91-93.

Man Ive pulled my 15 foot jon for 3-4 yrs and never noticed no slipping or excessive heat. Now b4 you go saying its only a jon when I pull it its got 4-5 bikes trotline equip, firewood, propane tanks (think camping) etc. in it. I think its all in how you treat that trans. Course I also had the sucker rebuilt in Jan. Not because of heat though. The guy actually commented to me that normally when he gets these 4t60e in the clutches are burned. Not this one though. The drum holding the cluthes stipped the teeth off.

Tomz34 might have another engine oil cooler. I bought mine from him he gave me a great deal. He said he's got tons of LQ1 parts for sale. I haven't been able to contact him lately though.
