thats the thing: you ARE throwing everything aside and trying to reinvent the wheel. why? there will be NO benefit in terms of power/economy/reliability from using a MS over a GM ECM.

the phrase i barely use but fits this situation comes to mind: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

being somewhat of an engineer, i'm always looking for ways to make things better, so i know where you're coming from, but the path you're taking is longer and less reliable, therefore not the optimum path.

i'm just trying to say you'll get the same or better results faster and more reliably using the GM setup...

maybe i'm crazy, but that seems like a better way to do things.

I hear you man. If I fall on my face it's okay. If it works out maybe we can compair notes. Maybe together we can come up with some radically new concepts. I dunno. But I'm going to proceed with my build my way for the present. If it fails no harm no foul. I'll start over again and continue to come here for advise and possibly have something new to bring the the TDC table.
I appreciate all your help and advise thus far. Dont think I dont because it's surely welcomed..

in that case, i (and i'm sure others here as well) will help where possible, but don't expect me to give any advice on running the MS. my knowledge of it ends after i learned its limitations. i believe b&g are still trying to make the UltraMegaSquirt, if and when that comes out, i'll re-evaluate it, but i'm not expecting miracles.

have fun trying to make a badass motor.

                the four speed manual?

i don't know much about it, but people have compared it to the 282 before...

Yeah my bad the 4spd manual. It's supposedly a tougher set up. Than the 282 5spd. Hopegully I can confirm this. I dont know a whole lot about the trans either. I'll see if I can research it more and post my findings. I'm guessing it's a little lighter though with less internals, less moving parts than the 5spd. Thanks for the reply..

well, according to google, v8 archie has had success with it before with SBCs so i'd say a twinturbov6 that takes a little while to build torque, it should be fine. i wouldn't cheap out on the clutch though, that seems to be the weak point.

Okay here's what I've found thus far..(Fiero).. The MY7 ( by isuzu) Supposedly has a weak bell housing web, but a few prefer it's ratios..

The MY8 Muncie is considered an HD unit with stronger cases..

The 1984 production line saw two transmissions, a performance 4-speed with a final drive ratio of 4.10, and an economy 4-speed with a final drive ratio of 3.32.

The V6 on the 1985 model and part of the 1986 production year came with a 4-speed with a final drive ratio of 3.65.

The lower-geared 4.10 4-speed transmission showed improved acceleration, but sacrificed fuel economy.

                      In order: Axle,1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th, and reverse..

                      1984 econo 4 speed MY8 3.32 3.69 1.95 1.24 0.73 — 3.42
                      1984 perf 4 speed M19 4.10 3.53 1.95 1.24 0.81 — 3.42
                      1985 V6/4-speed M17 3.65 3.31 1.95 1.24 0.81 — 3.42
                      1985 I4/5-speed MT2 3.35 3.73 2.04 1.45 1.03 0.74 3.50
                      1986 V6 4 speed M17 3.65 3.31 1.95 1.24 0.81 — 3.42
                      1986 V6 5 speed MG2 3.61 3.50 2.05 1.38 0.94 0.72 3.41

i would call stage 3 the minimum for this type of application...

Gotcha, I'm still researching to find the best combo from others and/or weather going with the auto would be more to my benefit.. I'm trying not to leave anystone unturned. I want to have every detail thought out on the drive train. So all suggestions are welcome thanx..

i think it would be tough(expensive) to get an auto to stand up to the amount of torque this beast would make at full boost, especially in the lower gears...

you could very well exceed the limitations of a 4t65e-hd... the super3.8 kids break them constantly...

also: a LSD would be a necesity... both for the benfit of traction and to reduce the tranny killing wheel hop...

Heard that. Got one of those pigs myself in my Camaro. Torquey yes but it would never spin up to 7200 rpm without going SCATTER!! My (chipped) TDC is/was a far superior motor and ran rings around my Camaro's 3800II. Out of the hole? Not so much, but where my 3800 is looking for the next gear I was still pulling hard in 2nd in the z34. Also what you said about the auto's is what has been worrying me the most. I can build a standard to hold lots more upper/lower end torque than an auto. least that's what I'm seeing so far....
