          ok... the LLT is:

The new 3.6L V-6 (LLT) engine delivers outstanding performance ratings. Standard in the 2008 Cadillac STS, the engine is SAE certified and delivers 302 hp (225 kW) at 6300 rpm* and 272 lb.-ft. (369 Nm) of torque at 5200 rpm.*

            Red:

You ARE a fountain of information.

From the tables: I would gues the LL6 might have been unsed in Saab. The table made me cry because I just found out that the 4.3 diesel (L54?) was a one-year engine (I let one slip through my fingers a couple of years ago thinking: it's a Chevy, there'll be others!). The table is a little old, since it still shows only the old LS series, and doesn't include the LLT, but you obviously know that.

I am getting to the age when I am starting to realize and appreciate my mortality. Instead of piling deeper the project cars and parts I may never get around to, I am focusing on getting exactly what I want and building that car, instead of using what's around since it is....around. Time is also getting to be very diffuclt to come by, so that too makes me narrow my focus considerably. The LLT might well be that engine - if it is around in sufficient numbers.

I am a VW guy, but their V6 engines are too tall and have too odd a bolt pattern to be "swap it into anything" candidates. Pitty, because they make good power and have fantastic aftermarket support.

That brings me to the 60 degree stuff. I have a bunch from 2.8 through 3.4 that I have saved for projects, but when it comes to a Miata swap, although it is by far the easiest engine to put in there (3.4/3.5 hybrid) the lack of bowtie blocks (Weight + starter location) and pushrod technology in a twincam age has me looking towards the twin cams. What I don't know until I find some drawings is if I can make one fit. Much to my surprise, nobody has even stuck a 3.4 twincam in a Miata as far as I can find.

So, I guess the next question: anyone got a dimensional drawing?

Just goto media.gm.com, and you'd be amazed at the info you can find.

As far as a dimensional drawings, are you looking for the 3.6DOHC or something else?

Looking for LLT + Aisin 6 spd specifically. Went to a Cad dealer today and had a good look (what I could see with it hiding under one of those hideous covers and under the cowl). If the LLT fits under the same hood as an LSx, and and LSx fits under a stock MX5 hood, it is then a matter of where the oil pickup is and what the sump looks like (I think that casting is integrated with the main caps or girdle).

                    Brad:

Thanks for the link. That thing positively gives me a woodie. Now, the real question is how to extract the electronics from a wreck and get the ECU to run an engine without an entire STS wrapped around it......and how to find a donor car and pay for it. Details, details. Looks like there are now three model years of STS with this engine, sold in both Canada and the US. Just need someone to rack one up and someone else to post that information somewhere I can find it.

Wonder if you could get that motor under the hood of a Z34 Lumina???

Couldn't see the starter location on the Aisin box or 3.6 block. When a drawing shows up, it will quickly tell about the height. If a 3.4 fits, I am assuming the 3.6 will (for height), since the inlet tract is tucked very tightly into the valley.

BTW: Check out the power curve for the 4.4 Northstar in Brad's post. Holy shit, if it was allowed to go another 1,000 that would be a 500 HP engine!

I wonder how many people realize just how good GM is at engines?

The link is gone now, but there used to be an article on Matt Hartman's (??) Cavalier drag car. It used a 3.6L, twin turbo'd, and was making ~1600hp. The article mentioned that many of the parts used were off the shelf parts, including the heads. There was some port work done, but the heads flowed so well straight from the factory that it was basically just some small touch up.

Its actually Matt Hartford. Here is a link to a race in 2005... http://cranecams.com/?show=newsLetters&no=138

"PRO/RWD: Matt Hartford in his Summit/MTX/FRAM Air Hog Twin Turbo GM High-Feature V6 Cavalier set the world on call with an off-the-trailer 6:56 @ 212 MPH! Matt made it count by winning the event and backing up the record!"
