What is the normal oil pressure for a 3.4? Will the oil pressure idiot light sender work for an electric gauge?

Since your a NEWB I will go easy on ya. First of, NO you can not use the sender for the idiot light. Thats a different sender. There are two types of gauges that you can purchase. Either a mechanical, which is dumb casue the oil will actually be inside your car, so if the line breaks your car is gonna be full of oil. OR a Electronic gauge. That uses a signal from a pressure sender, that comes with the gauge. You can TEE off and put the sender for the idiot light and the gauge sender on a TEE so that it still works, but you should be looking at your oil PSI every couple seconds. it should be in your peripheral.

A 3.4 DOHC depending on the milage should see around 10-14psi at idle. I am seeing 14 at my turbo.

Thank you for both the answer, and going easy on me.

I am using a "factory" electric oil pres. gauge. Long story short. It was fabricated from a j/y Regal full gauge cluster. Didn't bother to check, but believe it had a 3.1. Would you know if that sender will work in the 3.4 and operated the gauge accurately?

Should work, you just need to make sure the wiring is correct. If it plugs in, it should be ok.
