  • 3.6 vvt engine weight vs. 3400

Hey everyone, this is my first post here, I usually post on w-body or clubgp since I also have a 96 grand prix L67. Anyways, we also have a 02 Pontiac Montana AWD with a 3400. I am planning out putting the 3.6 vvt in it from a 04-05 buick rendezvous. Same body as the Montana, so it looks as though I won't have too many snags.

One question I got though for starts...how much does the 3.6 vvt(LY7) weight vs. the 3400? LY7 has an aluminum block but also has DOHC. Still, hopefully it is lighter than the 3400. Anybody have any numbers?

      I weighed a 3500 without the a/c, p/s and alt...

      340lbs on the nose.

how much do you think the Accesories weight...probably more than 30 lbs? So maybe the 3.6 LY7 is actually lighter?

          Montana:

Sure like to hear the end of your weight question.

BTW: How are you handling the electronics?

Well, the electronics should not be too difficult but that is the vast majority of what I need to look into, the other being the A/C lines.

The 04-06 Buick Rendezvous received a 3.6 vvt and the rendezvous and montana are the same body basically. The transmissions are the same and the all wheel drive is the same between the 2 vehicles so I just need the rendezvous pcm. I'm still looking into the wiring harness but I think there is a good chance it could plug into the Montana underhood junction box.

The A/C...I think if I just transfer the rendezvous condenser over to the montana the lines should transferalso...this needs more research but I think worst case scenario I need to have some lines welded near the rear of the engine bay.

Since the Montana and Rendezvous are the same body, heater hoses, power steering lines, fuel lines, evap line will be no problem.

I do need to add the pedal assembly with throttle sensor and wires for that though...I'll have to look into that...hopefully it just bolts in?

Are you sure the Rendezvous and Montana are the same body style? Rendezvous is like the Aztec, right? Not sure I would say that it is the same as a van. It could be, but it just doesn't seem like it.

Technically, the Aztec and Rendezvous is a B body and all the Minivans are a U body...but the B body is just a shortened version of the U platform and different sheet metal work. The drivetrains are exactly the same also until they came out with the optional 3.6 for 04-06.
