  • Peltier Plates Elecrothermalcoupler

Has anyone ever thought of using Peltier deviced to cool incoming air or cool the Plenum.

    Just a thought...

I seen a few and was wondering if somehow these could be rigged as Cold air injection system...

Was told that these units also can generate Elecricity at a 90% or better ratio...Stick a couple on your Cat and you got tons O power as soon as it heat up enough, or better yet on your Manifold!!!.

They even produce ambient voltages at low static temps, can be used to gather electricity from the sun!!!! Screw solar panels these things are less expensive, plus still yield energy on cloudy days if if warm enough...

Well mabey not the cat it too hot limits I have seen is 180 Cel...

I had a peltier on my CPU when I was into overclocking. They generate a shitload of heat on the hot side, so cooling it would be mandatory to make a real difference to the plenum or whatever. It wont do much for cooling the intake charge though. I have thought about using it as a test for the retarded "TB heat shield". I would love to dyno a car with and without a peltier on the TB. I am sure I can get the TB does to -80 or so... The masses of morons would be all over that im sure.

when I was reading the headers thread, it was mentioned that fans in front of the rad would block airflow, and I thought of slapping a couple peltiers on there

      Dumb, I know

I had thought about wrapping A/C lines around an metal CAI tube to cool the intake charge. But then you have to think about how fast air moves...

It won't work. A Pelletier cooler isn't some magic device that gets cold for free, it's a heat pump, it uses electricity to move heat from one location to another. In the case of a CPU cooler, it moves heat from the CPU to the cooling fins, where it can be dissipated. It also requires more electrical energy to operate than it removes in heat energy.

Sorry but to think that I might have forgot to mention the details.

The only law of thermodynamics I know is "OH FUCK THAT IS HOT!!!!" when I bump the exhaust manifold, lol. J/K, lol. This is probably why there are no kits around to do this... Gee, I sure am suprized that there isn't a kit on ebay by now.

Actually you could make one to cool the intake and throttlebody. You would just need a seperate pump, small radiator, and fan. The top of the engine isn't generating heat and the absorbed heat would be easy to displace through the peltier. I however don't see any good reason to do this.
