OK so maybe I am misunderstanding, The engine and trans combo are coming out of a stock 97 Monte. I was under the impression that the 97's had a 4t65e trans installed at the factory. I actually can't get the computer because the rest of the car was scrapped. I have to call the guy and see what type of trans it actually is. If it is the 4t65e already attached to the engine what would I need to do to get it to run on my 96 computer? Could I reprogram it and add a controller?

You'd have to get a 97 PCM in order to use it. That would (probably) be the cheapest route. A standalone controller for the 4T65E is in the $800 range, and just wouldn't be worth it in my opinion if your current tranny is in good condition.

As far as the 97 PCM goes, I have no idea if its a simple plug and play, plus some additional wires to go to the tranny.

Well the PCM I can get for ~ $80. The question is does anybody know weather it is just plug an go or is there additional wiring, electronics or programming needed?

Well here is the deal with the setup I could buy:

The car was hit lightly in the front. The body shop dropped the front subframe and put it on a palette. Included is the engine, trans, wiring, calipers, struts(possibly some bent brackets and pulleys)...and most suspension components.

I asked if he unplugged all the wiring and he told me that anything under the hood that could be unplugged was (he said there was pigtails to where the Computer was though).

The thing is, what other electronics(computer, pcm...) would I need to make this thing run assuming none was included.

I am starting to think a complete swap for an L67 doesnt sound so bad at this point. The DOHC scares me after what happened to me.

          Thanks, Jim.

If the DOHC scares you, get something else. If you want a supercharged 3800, then l67swap.com is the place to be.
