  • IT'S ALIVE!!!!!

I finally got that twin cam running. It is not perfect, but it is not too bad. I will have to iron out a few bugs. Here is what all is still left to do.

    ENGINE:
I have a MASSIVE tranny leak. One of my metal tranny lines where the metal line is crimped to the rubber hose, the crimp is messed up. I will cut it off tomorrow, and put a hose clamp on it. The power steering pump is making noise, but I think it might just be air in the system. I will give it a few days to work the air out and see if the noise goes away. The power steering seems to work fine otherwise.

    EXTERIOR:
I need to replace the rear 2 wheels, and tighten all the lug nuts. One of the tires has a nail in it (damnit Jay), so I will do a flat repair on it as well. I also need to put the HOOD on the car. I remove the hood whenever I am doing a lot of work to the engine so that I am not constantly bent over. It really helps my back. I also need to give the car a good waxing. I have never done it, and it probably needs it. One of the foglights is out. The houseing is cracked, and everything. I think I am going to do something custom with them. Also, the passenger side front turn signal (center of the car) is messed up. It is tilted upwards. Tomorrow I will pull it apart and see what is going on in there.

    INTERIOR:
I need to reinstall the knee bolster on the steering column. I also need to make a cover for the HUD, but that can wait until later. I lost the clip that holds the shifter knob in. I need to find one, and get it in there.

Once the car was running, the only dash lights I am getting is for LOW OIL LEVEL, and ABS. I don't know what is going on with the ABS. I do know that I could not find one of my wheel speed sensors, so I stuck a different one on there. It is possible that the one I put on there is bad. Before I go and start second guessing myself, I am going to get the car scanned, and try to fix it. I tested the automatic headlights (which I added in), and they work fine, but it was too dark to test the DRL's.

    On to the PICS

First the interior. This is the cluster with the car running. There is only 4 idiot lights on. They are FASTEN SEATBELTS, ABS, BRAKE, and LOW OIL LEVEL.

This is the radio on. It is a BOSE radio with BOSE speakers and BOSE amp. It works really well, but for some reason, when you first turn it on, it has a feedback. I think that is because I am using the newer BOSE radio with the older BOSE amp.

Here is the engine fully assembled.

Another pic of the engine finished. All I have to do to the exterior at this point is replace the rear wheels with the newer ones, and put the hood back on the car. Then it will be ready for a road test (after I fix the tranny fluid leak that is).

Lastly, here is 2 video's. They are both of the car running. One is interior and one is exterior. I still have some minor work to do to smooth it out, but this is a HUGH step for progress.

I drove the car today. Not too bad. There is some things that I need to do, but it looks like the only MECHANICAL problem is the ABS and BRAKE light being on. I will scan that later.

On the interior, my power door lock switches don't work, but the auto door locks, and keyless entry work fine. Also, my power mirrors don't work, and my AC will not switch off of DEFROST.

Here is a vid of me driving the car. It is hard to see anything, but you can at least hear the car.

    Now for some pics.

    This is the ENGINE:

    The wheels:

    The EXTERIOR:

I installed the DRL's, and made them so they light up the fog lights. Unfortunantly, one of my bulbs is burned out, but anyways, you get the idea.

    And now the INTERIOR:

How much did you get the car for? I can't remember. And what was wrong with the engine originally? Those seats look comfy. I like the can of degreaser with the 2.8/3.1 on the front

I call that cleaner 2.8 cleaner.

I got the car originally for $300 locally. Originally the car had a bad engine, and was in pretty rough shape.

The original 3.4 DOHC knocked REALLY bad, and the interior was trashed. The dash was cracked, the center console broken, knobs missing, etc. I have had this car for 1 year and 6 months now, and I am FINALLY getting it running.

I've still got the can you gave me years ago, lol. I haven't used a drop of it since no one around here sells that kind. It looks nice there Although I did manage to lose the cap...

I gave you that? Shows how much I remember. If you want some more, I can check around to see if they still have it. I know of 2 places here that was still carrying it. I will check tomorrow to see if they still have any, and if so, how much it costs per can.

I say go ahead and use it. It is some damn good degreaser. I didn't let it soak in like you are suppose too. I just sprayed it on, and then wiped it off with a paper towel.

Yeah, that was clear back when we had our double wide. Lets see, that would have been..... 4-5 years ago so it's not like you have a bad memory. I hardly ever use engine degreaser TBH. I hardly get where I need to degrease something, and anymore when I do I use brake clean because the local Advance has it cheap.

i tend to use either brake cleaner, or CARB cleaner. Local parts store has HUGH cans of carb cleaner for only like $1.99 a can. It also works pretty good.

I like the 2.8 cleaner because it tends to make the metal look more metal. It does not make it LIGHT in colour like carb cleaner does. It tends to leave the engine compartment looking more natural, and not "bleached".

I think I remember the trip over there in general, but not the specifics. I remember driving your Z34 that had the STOCK ENGINE, but it had the big corvette brakes on it. I also remember that Larry and I spent the night, and he was afriad of your cat sleeping on his face. I also remember Ben watching a movie about smoking weed.

I think that was the trip that I went there to get Ben to work on my chip, and that was when I bought those tires at the tire rack outlet. Those are the BEST TIRES I have ever had. They still have a lot of life on them (might be because I have not driven the gold car so much what with me blowing the engine up and all).

Now that I REALLY think about it, I think that was BEFORE I put the body kit on my gold car. I think when we got the new tires, and Lorenzo was seeing what the car could do that he mentioned that the body kit would probably help keep the car from lifting up or something.

DAMNIT!!!!! What did you have to go and get me taking a trip down memory lane?

Major props to you! Nice to see another DOHC engine up and running!

Now you just need to let me know about that front cover....and all will be right in the world

Because I've been away so long :P $1.99 is a really nice price, but I agree with the bleached look. Since you drove that car, I put the heads from the 91 on it because the 91 became my winter car, and I didn't need ported and polished heads on my winter car. Summer cars suit heads like that much better It also got the first set of lighter lifters Ben got a hold of and a custom tune. Other then the intake with the polished and tapered TB, that's all that has been done to that car performance wise, but now the dist. o ring has popped a leak. When I swapped the heads, I was in a rush trying to get them done for the 60v6 meet in KY, and the plug wouldn't come out, so I left it. Now it's leaking so I guess I am going to drop that engine I got from Ben in a bit sooner then planned because Mobil 1 isn't cheap and it's a practically new engine.

                        ouch.

I know I should have made an attempt to do the oil pump drive in my new engine, but I didn't even pull the lower intake off. Once it starts leaking, I will deal with it then.

So far, I have fixed the power door lock switches and the power mirrors. The passenger side power door lock switch was messed up causing the fluse to blow. I just removed the broken button, and now it works fine. I also put a new mast in the power antenna, so I now have a working power antenna.

So far, the car is driving fine. I am going to bring it home tomorrow.

The low oil light is intermittant now. When I fixed the power locks, and mirrors, now, the BRAKE light is off. I guess that fuse blowing up had done something too it. Also, by the last time I drove my car yesterday, the ABS light was staying off. I guess the ABS pump needed to loosen up some in order to work again.

I still can't fix the dash vents. I did the tests to the actuator assembly, and it all tested fine. It has to be a VACUUM problem keeping the vents from adjusting. When I go to the parts store to get some bulbs, I will also pick up some new vacuum line, and just run an all new vacuum tube to the interior. I will see if that fixes it.

I did test the globe, and it had pressure. I also checked the check valve, and it was fine. I guess there is something blocking the vacuum tube, or it has a crack somewhere on the interior of the car. Hell, I might have forgotten to even plug it in when I did the dash job to it last year.

well, not quite. I pulled the STE back off the road. The surging is getting worse. I am thinking more and more that it is a bad fuel injector. I will get some new injectors next time I go to a yard, and swap them in.

Those injectors I got the last time I went with you, those were from the Aurora 4.0 DOHC. I just got them to play with.

I did do some work to the gold car today. I installed the front airbag sensor, and the new front light harness that I got from the wrecked car. I need to get the interior back together.

A friend gave me a set of TAYLOR 8mm wires for the 3100, so I now need to go get new sparky plugs, and a lower EGR gasket.

oh yeah. About the green car. The ABS light is intermittant. Not sure what is going on. I think it is just still trying to figure itself out. I fixed the coolant leak. I just cut about an inch off of the rubber hose, and stuck it back on. It is a tight fit, but now, no more leak.

I do have a VACUUM leak. It is coming from the EGR. I ordered a new gasket from the dealership (it was cheaper than the parts store, and they can get it sooner). It will be here on monday. I hope the EGR itself is fine, but I KNOW the gasket it bad. I had the car running, and sprayed carb cleaner on the EGR, and sure enough, it died.
