  • 3.4L DOHC 1995 EGR on 96/97 Intake Setup

Does anyone know if their is an adapter to make a 1995 EGR setup work on a 1996/1997 Intake/Plenum setup? I have a new 1997 3.4L DOHC motor which took a Digital EGR valve where as my 1995 used a Linear EGR valve.

Ideally I would just prefer to use my 1995 Intake, Plenum and Throttle body on my 1997 new Motor but it doesn't seem to line up perfectly. When I try to bolt the lower intake down, it doesn't seat all the way. I'm using the 1996 lower Manifold gasket. It looks to me like if the gasket was 2x thicker, it would seat and all the bolt holes would line up. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Wellll, as far as the EGR goes, I'm almost certain the 95s used digital EGRs. I know my 93 Z34 uses digital. Can't see why they would go linear for 95 and then back to digital later. You probably have the same one as my 93. I don't know about after 95, so can't say about interchangability. Someone else should know.......
As far as the LIM goes there may be a "trick" that you aren't aware of. If you look straight down at the LIM you will see 2 holes that go straight down. With the LIM in place if you look through the holes you will see threaded holes that line up with the holes in the LIM. Find bolts that fit (I used bolt that had been removed for the job, maybe UIM bolts,,, and used a socket as a spacer... GM sells a tool for this also.). Tighten down those 2 bolts and it will line up the ports. Without compressing the LIM Gasket it's difficult (at best) to get all the bolts in.. I could even picture breaking the manifold. As far as I know things do line up between years and many people have swapped... Again, don't know alot about "newer" LQ1s. Again there ARE people here who DO know, hopefully they will chime in.......
    Hope this helps some.....
    If you already knew,,,, SORRY!!!

also consider swaping pcms if you can and removing the egr?

You can't. The EGR doesn't line up and it simply won't fit. Just plugs the holes on the pipe and call it good.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

            DOHCFIEND,
Sorry, my bad. Yes you did give me instructions. I did what you recommended. I cut the tubing and used the 95 EGR tube and brazed it to the 96/96 tube end that connects to the 96/97 exhaust manifold. Worked like a dream. thanks again!
