  • Check Gauges Light On

I'm having an annoying problem w/ my GP. The CGL started coming on when the alternator took a puke, but it is still coming on after I replaced the alternator. It comes on for a few minutes then off for a few and then back on and so on. The volt meter never drops below 13 volts. It actually reads higher all the time, but supposedly the CGL shouldn't come on due to low voltage unless its under 13.0. None of the other gauges malfunction, either, except the low fuel light will be on for less than a minute after you start the car, but will go off.

I think these other problems are also tied in. The courtesy fuse (for the map lights, etc.) blows a few seconds after I put a new one in and my power door locks quit working from the switch (key fob works fine, e-windows work). It's got to be a wire, right? Where would you start looking for the problem and are they all related?

    Please help

Well for the fuse blowing, you must have a short somewhere.

As for the CGL I had the same problem and it ended up being that the soldering on the back of the cluster had some bad connections.

Does any of the door lock switches work?

Do you have a power tester, ohm meter, etc?

According to the diagrams, the door locks (switch-operated) are hooked into the courtesy lamp fuse and the cluster is independent of those, so like you said, there was to be short somewhere knocking out the crtsy fuse. the cluster is another problem and according to all-data, there is something wrong with the cluster. i may just yank the CGL bulb out for now until I can get it fixed. there is a really good place in denver that rebuilds clusters. either that or i have access to an 88 GP w/ the digital cluster and i could swap that out (has already been rebuilt).
