how many have had a chance to play with this engine yet?
    I recently got a 08 equinox sport 3.6 with a 6 speed auto
I must say I'm very impressed in stock form.
cant wait to free up the intake and exhaust a little bit.
I love how it pulls to redline.
if you haven't had the pleasure of drining a 3.6 powered car I highly recomend a test drive.

I want to take the new Malibu 3.6 DOHC for a ride. That is a hot looking car.

I borrowed my moms Saturn Aura for a few months rescently while trying to get the 3900 up and running and as I said in another post somewhere; it halls a.. The tiptronic 6 speed doesn't shift fast enough to bother to manual shift but the pull through the rpm range and on one occasion the demonstration of the broad torque range during one instance where it refused to kick down was impressive. I can't imagine what a turbo bolted to it would do, probably rip the drive train from the car.

It's just down right unbelievable how far the little 60 degree V6 platform has come in 20 years. Can you imagine what you would have said if someone told you back in 1985 or 1995 for that matter that the little 60 degree V6 would be able to crank out upwards of 300 hp naturally aspirated in complete production street trim one day?

The engine has been played with by... let's see.

Australians have aftermarket turbo kits for the Holden vehicles with the LY7.
A spec racing series in Australia is using it as their standard engine, or will be soon, albeit modified to something like 400 horsepower naturally aspirated.
It has been used as a drag racing engine by a GM-backed team with a freakish amount of horsepower. 1500? 1800? More than I ever expected the stock crank and block to hold, anyway.
There's a company that sells the engine as a dune buggy powerplant with an aftermarket ECU and headers. Produces 300 horsepower by their word.

Not many "little people" have had a chance to play with it yet.

I personally think that it is the sexiest engine in production. Oh, Ferrari v12s are nice, but the difference... it's like the difference between that really hot, kinda shy college girl down the street and an actress. The actress is glamorous, but the girl down the street is really just as attractive, probably just as smart, hasn't shared her secrets with every guy who has $5 for a magazine, and if I wanted to try, I could probably convince her to share them with me.

P.S., I am not a dirty old man. I am a dirty young man. I don't understand it, but some people think the difference is important.

          P.P.S., I really love the LY7.

i'm trying to get the aftermarket going for it. it has a great chance since gm is dropping it in everything now.
my platform is shared with pontiac and saturn
the saturn has the least amount of power though on the vue redline
the torrent gxp and exuinox sport are both 264 hp
factory the intake has a small grunt to it and the exhaust has a little rumble.
just enough to make you want to open it up.

the trans shifts in manu mode are sluggish though
i'm sending a info log to hp tuners to get them rolling on programing that will hopfully let me correct the delay.
this thing is definately rev happy but still has a great torque curve.

think I know what I want to drop in my alero now
