  • Hi guys...newbie questions...

Apologies if these are covered elswhere....

Where is the best/most common source for the 3.4 DOHC engine?

I.E. which is the most common vehicle to use it?

Is it available stock with a manual transmission?

    Thanks.

I think the Grand Prix's were the most common mainly the GTP. The DOHC was available in cars 91-96. It was available in a 5 speed from 91-93 in various W-body cars. The Grand Prix, Lumina Z-34, and I think Cutless Supremes as well had the 5 speed.

Are you new to the car/engine?

The Chevy cars had the most DOHC engines in them. Lumina/Monte Carlo Z34s. The Grand Prixs are the next most used and finally the Cutlass Supreme. 91-93 DOHC cars had the 5 speed option.

Yes, both, although it is the engine that interests me...I'm building a tube frame mid-engined roadster...I already have an MR2 powertrain, but I'm looking for alternatives....

        Thanks for the help evryone.....

the 5 speed is very rare so good luck trying to find one, and it was not standard it was an option.

Are you sure it was an option? Normally the 5 speed is standard and the auto is the option (that everyone takes).

5spd was probably one of those "deselectable" options, like the manual transmissions in GM's trucks now. If you don't specify, you get an automatic by default, which is included in base price... or so their "build your own" calculator seems to indicate.

My GP was a factory 5 speed. First year productions came at first all standard manual and Auto as options...

Later Auto was standard Manual was option...

Yeah I was looking at Z34's on MSN Autos (dunno why... bored) and they stated that the 5 Speed was standard and the Auto was the option.
