  • help 1st engine removal

what has to come off to seperate the motor from the tranny. i have already taken off most of the crap for a head gasket swap that went wrong. i have taken the bottom bolts out of the engine mount but did not mess with the tranny mount.

i have taken off all the bellhousing bolts. but the motor is not seperating from the tranny.

do i have to remove the tq converter bolts?
if so how? i have taken off the little starter cover and i see one of them. i can use a ratchet wrench, but i don't know how long the bolts are. there is not alot of space between the flex plate and the oil pan.

my next step would be to remove the starter to get to the converter bolts?

is there anything else i need to take off?

You need to remove the torque converter to flexplate bolts, you just need to rotate the flexplate to get all of them. Make sure you leave the torque converter with the trans. There is also a bolt between the engine and the final drive assembly. You'll need about a 30" extension to get it.

got the tq converter bolts off. had to remove the starter.
really is that the one on the far right if u are looking from driver's side fender? like all the bellhousing bolts were on the tranny side, but there was another one on the engine side that looked like it was going into the tranny. is that the one? if not where is it located?
      thanx for your help.

that would be the one........ u have to get at it from the passenger side with a really long extension.... and a swival is very nice to.... it is preaty much on top of the actual body of the trans... and it does go through the moter part and bolt in to the trans..... exactly opposit of all of the other bell housing bolts

since you already have the exhaust crossover pipe removed you can get to it like the other guys said or from the top with a regular wrench. Ive did it both ways with success.

yea with the crossover gone i got it from the top.
now how do i go about seperating the enginr from the tranny.
i jacked ^ the motor, i came off of the mount, but i didn't let go of the tranny.

i am thinking this is the part where the hoist will come into play?
maybe lift up on the motor and pry them apart with something?

i can't fucking get the engine and tranny to seperate!!!!!!. i hoisted the engine and tranny up. tried to get it to seperate but ended up taking a chunk out of the bellhousing. there is enough play to hammer in a screw driver. but that is it. i rotated the flexplate 3x and no bolts remain in it. all bellhousing bolts remain, the fdr bolts is out.

im stumped. i need some advice soon cause i have to have the hoist back by mon morning or it is another 35 bucks.

i don't want to hoist it to far cause i don't want to damage the 1/2 shafts.

if i can't seperate the engine/tranny, how do i remove the 1/2 shafts so i can take it all out?

                  Off Subject

Not to change the subject or anything dohc fiend, but I was curious as to how you built your homade cold air intake? I have a 94 Cutty and I used my foglight openings. Made collectors out of aluminum that matched the openings and the rest was PVC and 2 1/2 " Aluminum Flex tubing from Lowes. Can't see it from the outside and it works great! (Sounds even better! Like an old Quadrajet,) Have to have a shutoff valve in case of rain though. Found out the hard way. Pulled water off the road like a Kirby. Mine is a splitter valve that sends air back to original. Total cost was about $40!

i don't care if u change the subject, i have already pulled the motor anyway.

mine, i bought a k&n filter for a v8, the cone had 2 in. ring that protruded out and around the filter. also it fitted my maf sensor. i took some sheetmetal/tin scrap fro the machine shop. wrapped it around the air filter. it ended up being 7in diameter.

i tried welding it at 1st either the welder would put a hole in the metal or the welds wouldn't hold. so i used some foil and duct tape to reinforce it. after that i reduced it to 4 in and connected it to 4in flex tube.

ran it down to the opening in the front bumper. it is heavily recessed and i haven't had any problems with water yet. to make it flush and not hang down below anything i had to take a 3.5 in. section out of the air dam.

be4 the cold air i used cut up piece of an intake tube off of another car that had a larger dia. and squeezed it onto the tb. it measured 3 in long.

but mine suffering from bad looks is functional. once on of my friends was being dumb and stuck his hand in it to try and get the car to cut off. so i revved it to 4000 and the flex started to collapse around his arm. scared the shit out of him..lol.

as far as facts go on a 60+ day be4 i installed the cold air, the iat read 112* and after i installed and went up the road it read 85*.

if u would like a pic of it i can send u 1 but need your e-mail cause it is too large to upload.

i think sappy told me about a program to download to fix that but i forgot what it was

total cost $48, 46 of it was the k&n.

make sure you get the bolt on the back of the tranny. it goes through the block and into the bellhousing. would might have to use an 18mm wrench to get it off.
