  • AIR system vacuum source.

I'm finally getting to the end of my install into a 1988 5-speed Fiero. This is a California car, so it needs a functioning AIR system. Having never seen a 5-speed W-body, I have a question about a vacuum hookup.

The air diverter valve uses vacuum to pull the valve open. Can someone tell me where the vacuum is taken from on the motor? That is, is it ported (vapor canister or PCV line) or full time (MAP sensor or fuel pressure line) vacuum.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

its taken off a MAP sensor line, i believe, or if you dont have a MAP (94-95 style), theres a vacuum port.

guess i shouldve been more clear, lol. when i pulled the air system out of my 91, there was a vacuum line that went from the maf to the pump. dont remember another vac line, but i could be wrong. i'd have to go look at all the parts i pulled. i didnt pay any attention to how my 96 was set up.

          Did you mean "map"?

This is really a question of a ported vs. non-ported vacuum source. My manual describes the AIR system working only at start-up, so it would make sense it would need a non-ported source, like the MAP location.
