I have a 95 3.4 DOHC Monte Carlo. I have had to replace the timing belt and have finally got the timing belt sequence down but the problem I have is the reference of the Intermediate shaft pully to the crank shaft. All the timing marks were wiped out when the old belt broke. Is this a correct or 180 out situation or do I have to pull the whole front cover off the engine. I can't find any reference that tells me when the crank gear is in time with the intermediate shaft gear. I hope the way I have worded this question hasn't confused anyone. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE
OK here's an update. It's either correct or 180 out with the timing mark on the crank on the mark on the front cover if the timing chain is good. #1 TDC, valves closed on #1 Cyl. The engine and cams are now in time. New pullys on the timing belt, New timing belt tension actuator. Now I have a no start condition. This is a 95, 3.4 Quad cam with 173000 miles on it. Compression is excellent. Spark present, 41# of fuel pressure and holding when key is on. Cam sensor checks ok. Coils primary and secondary resistance good. New AC Plugs, New wires. I haven't figured out how to check the ignition control module but it was such a bitch to get off that I am going to replace it anyway. Does anyone know values for checking the crank sensor or sensors? What else will cause this thing not to start? The engine was running good before it swallowed the timing belt.

The intermediate shaft sprocket doesn't have a timing mark on it. The only timing mark you have to worry about is the one for the crank pulley. It makes no difference what the intermediate shaft sprocket is at because it is turned by the crank at a 2:1 ratio. If the crank is at TDC, so it the int. shaft sprocket. You time the cams off the crank pulley, nothing more.I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

Intermediate sprocket
Thanks for the reply. I found that if the crank pulley is at the timing mark it can be 180 out or on the money. I didn't see this until I timed the cams the first time and they were 180 out. The second time i did it with the int sprocket 180 opposite and crank pulley on the mark, it was timed. #1 tdc both intake and exhaust valves closed.
