  • Cam timing

Just a double check - on the 3.4l dohc - when timing the cams using a degree wheel on the crank I need to DOUBLE the degree readings, yes? As an example if I want 7 degrees retard for intake I need to go past TDC on the crank by 14 degrees before I lock down the cam, correct?

Thanks - I'm doing the job tomorrow. By the way - stock block, heads, cams, heavy modification of airflow through the intake (redesigned intake), Corvette throttle body, tuned custom headers (2.75"), additional custom chip - dyno's at 228 to the wheels @ just over 6,000. Place that in a 2000 lb car (Fiero - heavily modified suspension) with an Achieva close ratio box and it scoots nicely.......

Retiming cams in my backup long block because it "all blowed up" at Pocono 2 weeks ago (after 3 seasons). Big time. One entire junk long block. Even the mount for the timing chain to camshaft belt pulley was bent down several degrees from the "rapid motor decceleration" (6000 rpm ==> 0 rpm instantly). The timing belt was jammed between the pulley and the front motor cover.
