    this one is expensive:

    3.4 dohc cam regrinds

    i have been given a ballpark quote of $750 for the cams, new valvesprings, retainers and lashcaps. i'll release all the specs when i am done.

    this is what i can tell you so far, we are almost in agreement on the grind. as of now it is a 280(232@0.50) but i am thinking about a more agressive exhaust side(dual pattern) 292(244@0.50) perhaps. it ay make the price go up. i do not want to reveal the source yet but i can guarentee you i will not make anything off of this(for that price how can I). originally it was just for me but i figured i'd throw it out there in case any1 else wanted a regrind.

    i am sure the guy will not mind the g/b but i haven't asked him yet so it is unofficial for now.

    some know who it is and i would request that you not say who it is b/c i don't want any1(but me) bugging him . but i can assure you he is reputable and i will ask him if i can reveal his name tomorrow.

    it is heavily recommended you have at least a set of ported heads and you will need your own cores. i am using 97 cams and i will ask if he will accept them all or if it matters if it does it will only be 96-97 cams.

    it is a decent chunk of change so i do not forsee alot of enthusiasm so if 1 or 2 want it the guy should have no problem with it.

    lastly, i think every1 will have to get teh same grind i will ask tomorrow but i am almost certain of it.

    whats the expected outcome with the grind? i could be interested, but am slightly more focused on a turbo setup.

      this grind is more focused on a n/a application but i will ask the guy about the boost when i talk to him.

      it is setup to have a broad powerband but the peak power will be moved upwards to about 6250-6500.

          not sure. they are not my power calculations. i left all that math to the cam guys, i told him what i wanted and whatmy max peak power rpm is as well as my redline, some stock cam specs and a stock flowbench chart and the decided onthe grind.

          i am hoping for about 40+hp but we'll see.

            just talked to him a few minutes ago. he said he doesn't mind the workload, if u want in on the cam grind you can deal with him directly.

            the guys name is alan johnson at cadillac hot rod fabricators.

            on top of that he wants some headflow comparisons so i am sending a pair of stock and my ported heads to be flowbenched by his guy. so the 280 grind is a roud-a-bout figure based on the specs i said already, the actual grind will depend on the head flow data........which will be available to every1 once finished. also we are getting started on the valvespring research as well.




            BEN(OR ANY1 FOR THAT MATTER), DO YOU KNOW THE INSTALLED HEIGHT ON THE LQ1 SPRING, SPRUNG AND UNSPRUNG. ALSO THE OD OF THE SPRINGS ON THE BOTTOM AND TOP.....PLZ

                  1.4 is the install height. 1.683 length uninstalled. .630 ID at top .843 ID at bottom.

                    I wonder if it will be any good with a Auto?

                    One thing is IF your getting the cams done you wouldn't need to adjust the cam gears.

                        whatever researc that is necessary to get this done 100% will be done. if the chart isn't necessary i probably will not get it as it is going to get expensive. that 750 quote doesn't count all the flowbenching and whatever else that needs to be done which i have to pay for on my own.

                        but it will not be if it will be when, everything is already sent to alan. as soonas it arrives the real fun begins.

                            Has the guy looked at the stock cams yet?

                            I remember Ben sent some off somewhere to be reground and they turned him down because there wasnt enough material on the back end to make any difference.
