  • Before I go any further (DOHC rebuild)

I have a 96 DOHC I am building as you all know. I am buying a Cutty vert w/ a Turbo setup.. I intend to keep the vert stock for driving around in the summer and such.. If I remember correctly, the 91-5 LQ1s have a lower compression ratio thant the 96-7.. I have my 96 heads and intakes, etc.. SO I can use those..

..WHAT gives these motors the lower compression ratio? (If I am remembering right).. Would I be better off turboing the lower compression ratio LQ1? I am stuck rebuilding my 96 because I cant get a grip on the crank pulley and sprocket to remove everything else in there to get it cleaned in honed..

..I just want to make sure I am using the best block for what I want to do.. Thanks for helping me out with all my noobness on rebuilding the DOHC!!

I don't know that either would be too high compression to boost. Use the 96 motor and keep 9.7:1. The heads give the bump in compression for 96/97, but im not sure what the piston difference is in cc's.

I know the pistons are different for 96-7, but I do not know the difference, lol..

I just wanted to make sure I have the right block/motor for the job.. I'll stick to my 96 and get the damn thing apart finally and get it ready to go..

i thought the blocks were the same but the internals were differnt. differnt heads and pistons in the 96 is what gave it more compression. but i might just be severly misinformed!

Correction: Woho's white Cutty vert w/ turbo pieces AM I buying. I need to seel an Achieva first to make room in my small stable.

I need a new DOHC though. Mine is Fubared. THe cylinder is completely destroyed for #3 on mine. I am just going to push it to the side, and get a strong running DOHC to toss in the car because this has taken far too long to finish. I'm pissed about it though.. I still have the heads and intakes for the 96, and will use those parts on the new one (Should it happen to be a 91-95).

Look for a thread in a couple minutes.
