  • 3.4's and gas milage

So, there's this 94 lumina z34 in my backyard from the previous homeowner. I was thinking about buying it as a cheap car to get around in... but I had some concerns....

I cruised around in a 92 i think cutlass supreme and the thing burned through gas at astronomical rates... bout 20L/100kms, I was getting about 380kms/tank.
It wouldnt pass aircare in vancouver, i know the car had issues.

anywayz, in general, how are these cars on gas? what are you guys getting when you drive normal/slightly aggressive maybe.

he's asking $3000 for it. apparently he just had the thing rebuilt because he lost a valve or something.

anything else you wanna say about it just say it. anyone know the real weight of these cars?

my 91 gtp with a 5 speed driving it hard quite often will get 520km/ per tank of gas , and my engine is pretty modded, and i think they weigh 3200 - 3600lbs, one of the 2 but i thought it was 3200 for sure.

I get 28 mpg highway with 6/6 timing. Stock I got 24. Don't even consider buying that car for gas milage cause its not happening. You need a 3.1 if you want gas milage. I got upper 30s and into the 40s on the highway with my 91GP when it was stock.

i dont know how accurate the DIC is but when im crusing down the highway my DIC says im getting 32-36 mpg depending on the speed. but once again i dont know how accurate that is. if i do all highway driving then i can get well over 600km to a tank and if its all city, then gas milage is total crap, like in the 400km/tank range.

I concur. My '91 Auto is getting SIXTEEN TO TWENY TOPS for gas mileage. Granted, it's mostly city driving. But still. Thats TERRIBLE. My old '90 5spd SE got like 20-26 on average. What am I doing wrong?
And it only has 152k miles
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

mine gets 12-14 mpg when driven mostly in the city, but around 26 when on the highway. Unless you do a lot of highway driving that car will suck the gas down like crazy.

ahhh ok. I thought that was weird. But ya I figured it would be a lot better on highway crusing. Your 3.4 gets that good? Not bad not bad. Would be even better with a 5spd

im getting between 16-18 in city driving with my heavy foot. and about 25-27 on the highway... although i havent taken it on a long road trip since my new spark and trany tables went in.... so it could increase.

i also have a computer model of the car and engine... it says i should see 19 city and 26 highway. my car has 170,000 miles on it! makes me wonder what my milage would be like if i rebuilt her and she was new again.

I get around 14-17 in town and 29 on the highway unless i'm drafting an 18wheeler, then its 32, even without cruise.
