  • 3.4 Dohc Lim

Hypothetically speaking, would anyone here pay $3000 for a 1995 Grand Prix GTP with everything but HUD, brand new michelin tires, good body except one rust bubble, and a torn passenger side seat? What if the LIM was bad in it?

Why wouldn't anyone think of paying that much for a 96 gp gtp? They blue book at 3995 I believe. Is there something wrong with them besides the lack of OBDII?

I think they are sexy cars. Not to mention quick. Though, I would deffinently talk them down from the 3k price tag
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

Now its a 96? Still rust, no pics, and not sure how much more rust. Bad lower? I wouldn't pay 2000 for that.

Sorry.... Not trying to irritate anyone, I just liked the car. It is a 95, that was a typo, so it is OBDI. The rust is weird, its like a 1.5 inch wide bubble that has paint over it on the rear driver's side quarter panel. The back bumper has a little faded paint. 96000 miles on it, and I don't know if the LIM is bad, I'm going to see it tomorrow, I just wanted some other opinions.

Watch out for rust bubbles, they can happen from the inside out. That means you might have a hole. If you can get there then check behind it and see if there is a small hole causing the bubble. Check underneath too, just because they washed the body doesn't mean they got underneath also. Even in the condition you say it's in I personally wouldn't pay 3000 for it, but it's your money. See if he'll take less.

One question though... what should I look for under the hood for clues for the belt pullies going out, or the lim gasket going bad? Any other common problems I should look for on the car? I plan on talking them down because there is a car exactly like it for $1995 on ebay.

Pull off the timing belt cover and check the belt. If he'll let you pull out the front plugs and check them out, and you can check the cam carrier cover gasket while you are there too. Other than that I'm not sure, just check for general leaks and if it's got rear disc ask him about the rear brakes. If it doesn't have major problems then $1995 doesn't sound horrible, but if you find something wrong you could point it out and maybe talk him down some more. Do you know how badly does the guy wants to get rid of his car?

Well, I went to see it today. It drove really nice but the LIM was on the way out. It wasnt really bad yet but there was coolant on the oil cap. It had some power and sounded real nice too. Power steering pump whined. It had a kinda bad oil leak though. He wouldn't budge from 3k though saying "there were a lot of people out there looking for a 3000 dollar car." hes looking to rape someone on that car. I feel bad for a certain someone w/ a green gtp in the future. Thought I would let you guys know how it went. However across the street there was a 1998 malibu with a 3100 in it. The ONLY 60*V6 in town that I knew of for sale that was clean lim gasket wise. It had new valve cover gaskets so I assume it had a lim job done on it. It's got 120000 on it. It starts hard sometime, like cranks a little bit too long. Other then that I kinda wanna buy it. They want 4k and it blue books at about 4200. Not quite sure yet though.

98 malibu is 4200? Wow, I didnt know they were worth that much. I though grand prix GTPs from 98 were worth less than 3000.
