  • Int Shaft

ok so i did some searching the other day, and i looked at pics and the walkthrough, but it didnt really answer my question. we are timing a DOHC 3.4 and was wondering, is there any other purpose to the intermediate shaft than just turning the oil pump drive, and also does it need to be timed?

There is no timing for it. It turns the oil pump and is also connected to the belt drive system because of the chain drive that turns it from the crank.

chain drive??? the only pulley on the shaft i see is on the front, this one is a belt drive, i dont know the year of the engine, but it seems to be maybe a 96 IIRC. just making sure that was all it was for though

If you take the timing chain cover off, you will see the chain from the crank to the int shaft.
