I swapped the 5 speed into my 91. I removed the dash to get my firewall plate out. I swapped the 5 speed console, drilled a hole in the passenger side floor for the cables, swapped the pedal mount for the 5 speed setup, and that was pretty much it. Grand Prixs aren't too hard to pull the dash out of so that makes it a little nicer. Oh yeah, there is the clutch safety switch that I didnt hook up so it starts without the clutch pedal. The cruise control isn't hooked up on my car either so I didn't have to worry about the clutch pedal switch for the cruise or for the clutch anticipation part of the code. I think there are 4 wires you gotta redo for 5 speed setup. 2 are for reverse.

I thought there was an article on doing the swap somewhere...

      Very true!

      There were 125 3.4 DOHC 5spd STE's made in 1991
According to my information, this is not true. There were only 57 TOTAL STE's with 3.4 DOHCs and 5 speeds. I got this info off the site of a guy who has 2 of them, and he verified it with Pontiac. Sadly, mine is not one of the 57. It's just an SE that came with a 3.4 but has been given a new lease on life.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

At least its not an LE:P Damn, chris sold his so that doesn't really mean anything anymore

Swapped 5 speeds are more rare than factory 5 speeds:P I got one that was swapped, parted, and will be back in soon. Poor bastardized pontiac.

While we're on the topic of 3.4 DOHC 5-speeds.. can anyone confirm the existence of a 3.4 DOHC 5-speed with the YF5 option code (look at the spare tire cover)? That's for California smog certification. If the car was originally sold in California it has it. I think the engine emissions sticker also says that the engine meets California regulations.
I'm trying to find a VIN number so I can show the smog ref that my swap is a legit California setup. The VIN # doesn't get tied to my vehicle, they just use it for reference when verifying my smog equipment. Anyone have one? Even a California license plate # would suffice instead of the VIN.

I believe this is the email adress i sent my request to. I found it through a thread on w-body.com.

                          cac@chevrolet.com

That also is the email they told me to reply too if i had any more questions.

That's pretty cool that you have a 91 5speed. Does it have ABS? I'm not sure if the 91s came with ABS. My 92 is in pretty good shape also. Do you have any pics of yours?

I tried searching for it this morning, but Google can't find it anymore. I think the last time I checked it I had to looked at a cached version of it. What I remember is that the heading of the site was The Vin-X files, and he owned 2 of those 3.4 DOHC STE with 5 speed, had pics and everything.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.
