Question about the LQ1 fuel lines

What is the purpose of this "bulge" on the fuel lines coming out of the rails?

yeah thats a quick release fuel line, and a special tool is needed to take it apart.

OK. When I bought the motor it just had fuel line pushed over the ends (with no clamps securing them!) Now I understand a post on PFF recommending these:
