  • Good news and bad news ....

Well I havent posted anything for a while and since I have an overabundance of time I figured I would share a few tidbits of information for you all . 3 weeks ago I had a customer come into my shop after seeing my cutlass out front . He asks me if I wanted another one cheap with a bad motor . I say sure and follow him to his house for further inspection . Its a 96 2 door 3.4 car that has seen better days , but for $150 I couldnt say no . The good news is my car now has a full black leather interior that is perfect and those damn tailights that I have been wanting . I have quite a few extra parts now laying around , mostly body parts but I do have a MAS and throttle body and a few other parts just ask . I have already scrapped the car but there wasnt really anything left to save . Now for the bad news . I would like to tell you all that playing with nitrous and 3.4s dont mix . I added one of the N.O.S. kits I had from my other car to the cutlass just to see what it was capable of ..... This was shitty idea number 1 . I had a broken fuel solenoid so I decide it is acceptable to only use the nitrous one . I figure since some kits use a similar setup this would be fine . That was shitty idea number 2 . I sprayed my car twice once only through 2nd gear and once for a give it all shes got run . HAHAHAHA joke is on me the car started to loose power on the ride home and now she has a slight knock and it is burning more oil than the fires of Kuait . I found another low mileage engine in a local scrap yard and it should be delivered to the shop next week . Now for the new engine I would like to know what is an ok range of laughing gas to throw at these things . Obviously around 125 is waaaay too much so gimmie some input guys . Thanks - Joe

With proper tunine, 125 MIGHT be ok. Problem is you are getting about the full potential of the nitrous with the DOHC design of the engine (air flow).

Wish I had full leather interior...hahaha. So whats up with that 96 engine? You didnt scrap it too did you!?

Nope I still have the engine ... Well whats left of it . The block was windowed and the guy thought he would be handy and start taking things apart . The front side head is missing most of the front cover and a few other misc. parts . I am keeping the trans since he said it had been replaced with a reman a few years ago and since these things hate trannys I figured I would stay on the safe side . But I will have a complete engine from my car in a few weeks since the knock gets worse every time you drive it . Thats it for now later - Joe

Make sure you fix the fuel solenoid before trying again. On the wet kits, it's absolutely necessary. Without it setup correctly, you will blow every engine you put in. Do you have any way to monitor A/F ratios?
