are these still the current prices for these parts? if so where can i purchase them im in dire need of a new cam for my monte. i happened to snap one a few days ago and cant find them anywhere for under $370

i took a look at rockauto.... no cams on their own.

Marshall seems to seems to offer(based on the description) a full head/carrier/cam combo for the 91-95 and 96-97 at least, but it's not exactly cheap.

it was on the scale of ~$600-700 including core charges. ~$500 before.

just look up your year of engine on rockauto and you'll see it in the engine->cylinder head section.

eh im not looking to spend that much, i mean the dealer wants $388 for one friggin cam. i was on a site not to long ago that they told me to go to and they had em for like 150-$180 but for the life of me i cant remember. im just trying to find one that i know is exactly what i need but wont be so expensive that my raisin hurts the next day if you know what i mean lol

Does the '93 use the '92 cam set, or the '94 cam set? I'm betting they're the same as '92. That better be right...I have a '93 with one original cam carrier and cams, and one '92 cam carrier and cams. Never thought to check the cam profile for differences. Engine runs fine--popped the transmission immediately after engine re-assembly.

On second thought...is there a difference in lift/duration between '92 and '94--or is it just the change to the soft plug and thrust plate oiling in the back of the cam? Early cams had "solid" soft plugs and an oil hole in the thrust plate groove, later cams had soft plugs with a hole drilled in them, and no hole in the thrust plate groove. That might be the only difference justifying a different part number--AND--the reason the earlier part number sets are discontinued. I bet all cams from '95 and earlier are functionally identical except for the oiling modification.

I have a set of cam carriers, "updated" cams, and heads with fresh valve job for sale. PM for details.

I thought the lifters changed in '96. Am I wrong?

i've looked it up before, i think the 94-95 have a different(longer) duration than 91-93? or something along those lines. the 93 and earlier cams also don't have the cam positioning sensor "pole" IIRC.

also, the oiling update supposedly went into effect for late 95 cars according to the TSB.

96 used the 94-96 cam carrier, 97 used the 97 specific carrier with the smaller lifters.
