  • Question about the LQ1 block

I'm just about ready to bolt the cradle back in to my 1988 Fiero with a 1992 LQ1/Muncie 282 combination. There's been a lot of activity over on Pennocks Fiero Forum about the new Pontiac G6 6-speed (the bellhousing pattern is the same). In fact, there's a guy in Montreal who bought ten of them and is selling them for US$800.00 plus shipping. If you're interested look in the Mall over there. I found a brand new one on CarPart.com for $499.00 and bought it.

There are a number of difficulties associated with the swap, especially into a Fiero. One is that it uses a jackshaft, the Fiero M282 application did not. I plan to change the Fiero single passenger side motor mount to the Lumina/GP/Cutlass front/rear motor mount style. This will give me a jackshaft bearing mount point. I plan to mock up the engine/trans on a spare cradle to build up the new brackets and mounting points.

So, here's my question: I'm going to need another block to work with to get this done. LQ1 blocks are not that common (I had a spare with a seized crank and I took it to the recycler. Aaaarrrgg!) So I'm wondering if the 3.1/3.4/3100/3400 blocks have the same mounting bosses as the LQ1?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
