I just have a quick question for anyone i just had the dealer in the area put a new trany in my 96 gtp and something doesn't feel right when im driving around and my t/c clutch doesn't seem to be engaging if i put the cruse on at 50 and tap the brake my rpms dont jump. im wondering if there is any other way to see if it engages. i did get a slippage code and took it to the dealer and they said they repaced the valve body b/c my clutch was not engaging. and since then im not getting a code but it still doesn't feel right.

when cruising at say a steady 50 mph, give the engine a hair more gas, if the tach/engine flares up speed some then your TCC system is malfunctioning. You can test to hear it clicking, then you'd know the solenoid is good. Otherwise it's something up in the valvebody and/or channel plate, or oil pump drive. Unfortunately the real inners of the transaxle aren't diagnosable without complete removal and examination.....Lorenzo

u lost me with the "give it more gas and the engine will rev" and how do listen for the solenoid at 50mph. can i actutate it with a tech 2 and listen that way but it did just get a new valve body. latest info is the dealership wants to give it a new pcm but they need to work with it some more untill monday. i think it is histarical that they just can't find the problem this is the 4th time i have had it in they just keep throwing parts at it and hope i will go away

Ok, at steady a 50 mph just kinda knock the gas down a hair and note the tach. If the tach flares and the car doesn't increase speed relative to the tach flaring, then the tcc is non operational. What should happen is that that the tach should not flare but increse relative to speed like how a standard transmission does. As far as testing the solenoid...it would be impossible to hear it fromt he drivers seat at 50mph....my fault. Get some leads made up, and you can test to hear it, car parked. Noting the wiring of the tcc on the trans plug, you can operate the soleniod, noting for a click. if you hear it, you know its working. But with Tech 2 you should able to forgo all that rigamarole and activate it from the driver seat, besides I do believe later years there were 2 TCC soleniods, one that actully applys pressure and the other that regulates it. With that in mind, the Valvebody/channel plate systems in the trans could be at error.
1,2,D,TCC,OD That's the order of apply under normal conditions. If things are still the same, then OD will always enable at 45 mph.Lorenzo
