  • Identifying throttlebody type (gen 3 motors)

To make it easier to figure out what throttlebody linkage is needed between applications, I am going to post up pictures of the different types as I come across them. These for the 3100/3400 engines. If you see something that looks like yours and I dont have the year/motor listed, please let me know. If you have a throttlebody I dont have listed here and can take a pic for me, please do so. I will eventually get this info on the main site but I want it as complete as possible first.

This is what the 97-98 3100 throttlebody linkage looks like.

This is a 3400 Grand Am from 2001-2003 Throttle body

Does your 95 look like the 97 throttlebody?

I can verify that the linkage in the first 2 pics were used in 95 (minus the coolant lines) and likely as early as 94.

my '95's linkage is all- steel but functionally looks like the 1st one you posted.

The TB from an '01 Impala looks like your last pic posted.

Thanks I know the A body cars got a different throttlebody so im not sure if these billet ones will be compatible. Seems like that is the only platform difference so far. Are there only 2 types of throttlebody linkages then? 94-98 and then 99-05? That would be nice, even if its all metal for one and part plastic for another but they function the same.

I have a '95 Lumina 3100 and swapped to a TB from a '00 3400 here with the plastic on it. I discovered there is a difference in the area where the cable wraps around. The 3400 TB is slightly larger and raises the pedal. On mine it raised about 3/4 inch causing the TB to max out before the pedal hits the floor.

That looks like the older type. Ok, so maybe its not year based at all. That makes it a little more difficult then.

Ah ok, its a metal version of the plastic one I think If that is compatible I will hunt those suckers down too. I dont forsee many rendevous owners looking for a larger TB but maybe im wrong.

just an fyi, i think there is at least one more version of the TB linkage.

i have 3 different ones at home, and only 2 of them match the pics posted.

i will see what i can do for a picture so you can see.

im sure it came off of a 52mm tb, but no idea the application.
