well the quantity of oil removal for ME isn't the issue. teflon is alot better as a safety measure. like if it is mocked up too close. most likely it will just get bounced off the crank or at worst ripped off and spat into the oilpan.

where as the steel one, the results might be alot worse if it is not 100%. like it will scratch something if it is too close or if the crank bites it, it may wrap around something and fubar the entire motor.

but right now i will have to see. i'd have to buy the steel one, buy the teflon one and pay a machinist to form fit it? for that kind of dough i could just add it to the price of the pistons i bought and get custom forged ones.

THe steel scraper doesn't touch the crank. Its got more clearance than I think you realize. Also, teflon doesn't require a machinist to modify.

If the crank hits the steel one, you have larger fish to fry before hand.

so do the steel ones have to be bent into place like the teflon units ben?

no, they bolt right in. Where have you read anything about bending to fit?

i did't, just asking a question. see if the vendor can pre-bend them using the steel ones as patterns? that is what i am looking for, a bolt-in teflon scrapper.

The Teflon is cut from a sheet and is about the same shape as the steel one (The Teflon insert is held in place by a version of the steel one with clamping plates). You smear Prussian blue indicating grease on the counterweights and rods and then look to see where they touch the Teflon. You cut it away with an x-acto knife or dremel. When you have light contact with the Teflon (the Teflon moves just slightly or you can just feel drag) then you are ready to start up the engine and let it bed in fully (more steps than that but that is the gist of it). No bending is involved with the frameworks. If you need to adjust them you should grind or file them.

It is something you just need to take your time with and follow the instructions.

If you live in the US, i shipped them monday, you should have them today or tomorrow. Canada, I shipped them off tuesday. No idea how long it takes the border people to get tired of having them.

Well, I mounted the crank scraper....

#2 and #6 Rod caps touched.

Nothing a little grinding couldn't take care of

But if the instructions didn't say it clear enough.

DO NOT USE THE STARTER TO TEST THE UNIT.

I just hand turned the engine.
