  • Camshafts and Pushrods

I wanted to clear something up on the pushrods, since it seems a LOT of people don't want to buy a cam because they HAVE to buy pushrods.

This is not the case. The stock lifters have .153" travel, and .070-.080 preload is optimal. Most of our cams call for a .020" longer pushrod to put the optimal preload back. You can easily run the stock pushrods with these cams. To get the absolute most, you should have the longer pushrods, but you aren't going to be throwing codes, blowing smoke, creating lots of valvetrain chatter, etc. Its going to sound normal, run normal, act normal.

I have a tendency to be a perfectionist, while most people and companies that work with 60V6s are not, so I wanted to make this clear.

I just made a decent article with diagrams for those that want to learn more about their lifters.

I have a set of custom length pushrods left from a cam buy I made awhile back and while the cam was trash the pushrods look fine and they are all straight. They appear to be measured in at 5.8125 and 6.125 using a tape measure since my micrometer I have won't go above 6". Is that normal for the intake to have .0665 extra length and the exhaust to have .051 extra length? Anyway way will be these work for a future cam install such as a street/strip or strip cam from WOT-TECH or are they too long? I know Ben you said that your cams mostly only need about .02 extra length but is that .02 on exhaust and .02 on intake? I guess I'm just not seeing why these have such a difference in extra length between them.

Regrinds need longer pushrods for similar cam specs to the Comp cams we well. You really need an accurate measurement to tell, but if they are .060" long, you are going to need the race cam or similar grind for those pushrods to work for you.

Thanks Ben. If I can use them, great for the money I'd save. But I really should have went with a whole head and cam package when I bought everything from you then I wouldn't need to worry about them. Silly me was all like man that's so expensive when in reality it was a way better deal then what I'll have to do now. By the way Ben I got my chain replaced with a 99 set and my car sounds so much better now. Here's a question though for everyone, would anyone here be interested in them? I don't really know if there is a market for pushrods without the cam to go with it but it would be a waste to trash them.

The custom ones from wot-tech not only make things work better, they're very sexy looking. They are very good quality too I might add. Just my .02
