  • 3100 to 3500 swap

I swap my 3100 out of my 2000 malibu for a 3500 out of a 2005 malibu. Engine runs good but i have a hestiation off idle. Is this caused by the stock 3500 cam?

The 3100/3400/3500 cam profile are all the same.

It's becaused the engine has different flow charicteristics due to better heads mainly. To put it simply, you need a tune. What injectors are you using BTW?

I am running the stock 3100 injectors that came in the 2000 malibu. What injectors do I need to run in it?

If it's not tuned, the 3100 ones. So you are doing good there. But it's going to lean out a bit on tip in or be too rich/etc. Since the fuel map changed by the different motor you're going to need to get it tuned to get it to drive like "normal" and also so you get all the power out of the engine. It could be leaning out dangerously too when you get on it in the high RPMs.

Until you can get it tuned, drive very conservatively and the fuel tables will slowly adjust but it will never be perfect. Just with my mods on my stock 3100 in my blue DD it takes about 2 weeks before the car seems to have full power and no "dead" spots in the power band. That's just large intakes and exhaust pipe. After I work on my orange car I'll swap the PCM I have in my blue one and tune it too.
