  • Enhancement for TCE 65mm TB

    Everyone:

While I love my TCE 65mm TB, something has always bothered me.....
You need to take a factory gasket and trim it out to match the bore of the TB to match the plenum opening. Obviously, this isn't an issue for those using a 3500 plenum, but for people like me using a 3400 plenum ported to 65mm, it's a bit of a challenge. The gasket gets very thin at some points, and especially at the bottom of the TB (right above the thermostat housing), it's very easy to develop a small vacuum leak. Sure, you can help it with a bit of RTV, but I don't really think it's ideal.
I was wondering if it's possible to machine a small groove on the backside of the throttle body for an o-ring gasket, which would negate the need for the paper gasket.....kinda like the adapter plates that TCE makes for mating their TB to a 3500 upper. What do you think?

Some were made with an o-ring groove but since the TBs are used for different applications the groove wouldn't work. Also, some TBs are bored to 68mm which would cut into the groove. At some point, I do plan to have a die made and start supplying custom gaskets with the TBs.

Some manifolds have a notch for the IAC and thus the o-ring won't work for that.

I would just get some gasket material, or use some thin card-board (like cereal box style) and cut your own from that rather than modify an OEM gasket.

I thought my adapter plate had rings so I didn't have to do a single thing but bolt it on?

Matt is using the 3400 intake, not 3500. The adapter plate won't work.

making that gasket sucked yes... But I just opted to upgrade to the 3500 upper instead now I'm all o-ringed and much happier.

I will just include the modified TB gasket with the throttle bodies from now on.

I couldn't get a stock gasket to work with a stock TB and the manifold adapter for the 3500. I had to make a custom one to cover everything.
